“Enchanting hotel with friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2010

The hotel exceeded our expectations - the staff were very helpful and friendly! We were made to feel very welcome indeed and nothing was too much for the staff to make our stay memorable. The breakfast was varied and very good. Location of the hotel was good as it was a walking distance from all the attractions we wanted to see. The manager gave us good advice where to go, what to see and what to avoid which was very helpful as we had never visited Turkey before.
For three lady 'travellers' a very good choice of hotel!

We just spent four nights at Garden House and the staff just couldn't do enough for us. On arrival we had fruit and wine in our room and delicious Turkish Delight. The neighborhood was very nice and within walking distance of the Blue Mosque and all the sights. We loved that at anytime of day or night there were always complimentary refreshments available in the dining room. I especially loved the outside Garden area for breakfast. On our last night we had to change rooms and found ourselves in a lovely room with a jacuzzi and silk rose petals on our bed. I would love to come back!

We were delighted with the service and attentiveness of the hotel. Mr Cikan treated us like celebrities. Our room was clean and actually a pleasure to be in. Service there was outstanding. The breakfast looked like the usual buffet; however we soon learned that we could order to suit by just asking. The hotel arranged a tour guide with our approval and some dinner/show events. This hotel is a real gem near all the major attractions or transportation to what is not near.
Thank you Kadir for a great time.

We stayed at Garden House for a total of 5 nights, bookended around a 2 week trip in Turkey.

The hotel is located within a mostly residential section of the Sultanahmet district, very close to all of the primary historic sites (Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, etc.). Of course there are historic sites all over Istanbul, so this is relative.

At first you think you are going to need to drop popcorn along your path to find your way back to the hotel at night, but this quickly proves not to be the case once you get your bearings. If you haven't done so already, purchase the Istanbul City map at the front desk - a very important investment and an excellent map.

We stayed in the Penthouse room #502 and highly recommend. It includes one-way transfer from the airport (which is nice to have when you first land) and views of the sea from the windows and from the private outdoor deck. The bathroom is pretty big with a great shower that has steaming hot water and a lot of pressure. Perfect after a long day of walking. Jacuzzi too if that floats your boat.

Breakfast is simple and good, either inside or outside in the garden, hence the name of the hotel.

The staff at the hotel are uniformly attentive and friendly. Their advice to visit the fish market was terrific. This is not a frequently mentioned area of Istanbul and is walking distance from the hotel. Essentially 40 or so restautants specializing in fresh fish lined up one after another on a couple of adjacent streets. There is a fountain in the middle of the area, which I recommend you reach before deciding on which restaurant to eat at. This will not be easy because as in most of Istanbul, you will have to run the gauntlet of carnival barkers trying to get you into their establishment. Just recognize that this is how these people make their money and ignore them.

Have fun!

Oh I really loved staying at the Garden House for 5 nights in Istanbul, the first 4 with my parents and the last night with my friend. The staff was terribly friendly and very accommodating to whatever we needed or questions we had. The bathrooms are nice, the amenities even nicer, the garden extremely pleasant and the food really good. Just a short walk to the Sultanhemet and the metro, it's very easy to get everywhere in Istanbul from her.

We had an extended stay at the Garden House hotel because of the volcanic ash. The staff couldn't have been more helpful in this difficult situation. The hotel has wifi but we used the computer provided for guests to rebook flights etc. We were able to stay in their hotel for 8 nights when our original booking was for 3. Several times we booked out only to find our flight cancelled again and they sent a taxi to the airport to collect us! They provided a free meal one evening for all the guests because we were unable to get home. This is a small hotel and the facilties are a little cramped but the service makes up for all this. The location is ideal for visiting all the wonderful tourist attractions in Sultanamet. There are many good restaurants close by.

We were booked for a week and had to stay longer due to the Icelandic volcano.
Staff were very heklpful and tried to make our enforced extra stay as painless as possible, with suggestions of what to do in Istanbul.
As it is a small hotel there is no proper lounge, but the dining room and outside patio are comfortable, and refreshments are available all day. Free Wifi throughout the hotel.

Rooms are comfortable (suggest book standard or superior rather than the basic rooms).

Area does have some building work, as it is in the old part of the city which is being renovated. The Muezzin call to prayer tends to wake you up, but that is part of being in the historic centre of the city.

Only possible problem would be for people with limited mobility, as the hotel is at the bottom of a hill and the early morning walk to the central sites (Blue Mosque, Sultanahmet, Hagia Sophia, etc) entails a short but steep climb up the street. But then Istanbul is built on hills, so that would be a problem anywhere in this city
