“my first choice for my stay in istanbul”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

have stayed at this hotel for the 3rd time now and every visit has been a very consistent experience, and Ipek Palas is definately my number 1 preference for hotels in istanbul.
Pros: - Close to all the tourist attractions sultan ahmet precinct and grand bazaar
- close to tram and ferry stations
- clean hotel
- friendly staff went out of their way to help with our requests

cons: - really hard to fault this hotel the only negative would be the construction going on next door however it did not affect my stay at all, ear plugs are a must for travelling anywhere i didnt hear a thing!

having read the negative reviews posted previously i found it hard to believe anyone would not like this hotel or have a bad experience however i guess everyone has different expectations when they book a hotel and different standards which they are accustomed to, in my opinion having stayed at a few other hotels in istanbul this hotel is perfectly fine, clean and friendly hotel if you are there to sightsee, if you are looking for a hotel where you want to spend more time in the actual hotel and looking for ammenities then this hotel probably wont meet your requirements.
as said previously this is my number one choice for my stay in istanbul always a pleasure staying there.

thank-you to the friendly staff for making it a great stay each time.

The hotel was in a good location within walking distance of all tourist attractions. Our room was on the small side but we were offered an upgrade. Murat on reception was very helpful an friendly. Breakfast was good and a good variety. Most definitely would use again.

Came back from a 4 day city break in Istanbul. We booked this hotel through lastminute.com as a mystery hotel 4*. To start with, the hotel was no way near 4*. To give you an idea, it was hotel in a desperate need of modernization and upgrading. It looks like a 2* hotel in a small street on back of Kings Cross, London. We had to change our room 3 times then we got fed up in the end from changing rooms. The room looked like it got stuck in 70s era; Very old television, horrible bed and awful bathroom. Oh by the way, you get 2 pairs of bathroom slippers with room..... wow. The breakfast was Ok but relay nothing special. Allot of unusual food but you get by. We decided to go out and have our breakfast in one of many traditional Turkish nearby cafe. One plus thing about this hotel was the staff. They were so polite and helpful. The location of the hotel was the another plus although they were so many other hotel nearby. To be honest, considering the price we have paid, the hotel was value for money other was it can be considered as rip off if we had to pay the full price. One thing to remember, do not be misled by the pictures on their website or other website. They only show you the one which about £300-400 per night.
Istanbul is a very fascinating city indeed. Allot to see and explore. However, it is very tiring city. People can be friendly but in the same time they are after something- money. They know every trick that you can imagine. A few tips for you; go out for meal but make sure you write down everything that you have ordered on a piece of paper. Do not be fooled by the friendless of the waters, believe me we have seen many of them. If you fancy a particular food make sure you ask for the price first. Do not be shy for asking how much. When you sit around the table, waiter brings you water, bread and maybe olives even without asking him to do so. You will be charged for this. The trick is that they can charge anything they like as those item are not in the menu. They expect you to argue before you pay but they know you get fed up ended up through money at they and walk away. Taxies are very cheap if the taxi driver operates the meter. Most of them try not to. However, the tram system is very efficient, clean, reliable and cheap so use it if you can. Do not get me wrong, I loved this city because of the chaotic life. It was a lovely experience and I really hope you will enjoy it

Dear Guest

You booked an economy room with very low budget. If guests would like to have larger rooms, than room can be upgraded by daily extra supplement. However for another reasons ,you wanted to change without any supplement than same cathegory room was given to you.All room type pictures are published on our webpage and also other online sources. To avoid confusion, even the staff indicates pictures on our website and explains to guests. We hope to see you in our hotel.

Best Regards

The hotel service here is great and really friendly but a few negatives considering the price. For quite a while to come there is a building site next door for a new metro which will be great fpor the hotel once it is built.

The work goes on until 02:00am in the morning causing little to no sleep. I would recommend visiting this hotel after the building work is finished!!

Also do not invest in the suites. The superior rooms are far bigger and more luxurious and the second room in the suite has no air conditioning.

The breakfast has far too much chili in most dishes which I don't think is really an ingredient for first thing in the morning.

Good points - great walking location and the staff are very apologetic about the faults. view from the top restaurant is really good. Warning - we did not get our complimentary cocktail that was promised on booking. The bar was more often than not closed.

Recommendation- book the booking through the hotel website rather than any discount sites as you get a free transfer from the airport and it is cheaper (for some unknown reason??)

Room Tip: Book superior rather than a suite, it is a lot bigger and nicer looking.

Ipek Palace was a total disappointment for us - and we have travelled a lot. Hotel promissed in their advert-video breakfast with a wiew to Bospor - and we had our breakfast downstairs without windows. Breakfast was basic – not good, not bad. Strange detail in it was the fact there was not fresh fruits to eat, but was possible to get some fresh juice – after payinf 5 liras extra! So, breakfast was included, but only partly…

Our room - Superor, extra paid room 311 - was very small and uncomfortable. Wallpapers was broken, tv worked only sometimes after pushing the table to get electricity work. Bathroom was stinky, there is mushrooms or some another problem. Was promissed to have bath and shower, but bath was nor possible, because was not possibility to close water. Total opinion about the room is 2 stars. I have something to compare, and for example in Paris even 2 stars room is better than this!

Service was rude and not trustable. After asking about WHY breakfast is not upstairs as promissed, they promissed us breakfast there - and next morning we only noticed the manager had asked to lock upstairs restaurant, so we did not get the promissed place.
There was water boiling and cups in the room, but tea was two bags, After it ended - way stayed 7 nights - reeception told only unpolitely that they are not giving more. There was two cups – and they was not washed during the week more than once.

There was not any glass for brushing teeth – on 2 paper cups for minibar. And after we used them, we did not get new ones but needed to use same paper cups all week. Specially service and smell of the room and corridores were from 2 star hotel.

Extra blanket because of illness we got - and strange wishing: we hope to get it back, when you leave. Seems so Ipek Palace is in economical troubel and tries only economize, not to serve anyone. They are afraid people take the hotel property - nowhere else I have seen stuff calculating cups and furniture when customer is leaving.

We feel cheated. Never back to Turkey!

Dear Guest
Thanks for your comments about our hotel. We would like to clarify some points. For your request a superior room having bath was arranged.Bath plugs were sent your room twice. We checked the records and could not found any maintenance request about TV or bath. There was also possibility to change your room but you did not mention your uncomfort.
According to your request,it was offered to you for next days it would be possible to have your breakfast in top floor in the case of communication with our waiters. This information was shared by service team and front Office team. However next day morning and other days you did not contacted with our waiters.Eventhough this suggestion was offered by hotel staff, does it not come to strange to lock restaurant door ?? In the breakfast, concentrated fruit juice and fresh orange juice is served.Fresh juice is an extra but no one may be compelled to purchase fresh juice or prevent anyone to take an orange from basket.
As a hotel policy it’s forbidden to bring food from outside. However some guests do not obey this rule by carrying some bulbous foods in their bags.Because of this reason this odor occured.Otherwise our corridor carpets are brand new, that is used a few months.
Complimentary tea, coffee facility is valid only once.Minibars exist in all rooms and one responsible staff from minibars checks and fill them up daily but you describe this service as a furniture etc calculation. If this condition is not required by guest,no disturbing cards are available in the rooms.
Eventhough for emergency cases, medical services are provided and additional requests like extra blanket etc is supplied. In this health cases ,we can not think about to say any ribaldry to guests. For any case hotel staff assist to our guests for their comfort. We hope to see you again in Istanbul.

Kind Regards from Istanbul
