The is the most downmarket of several hotels I have stayed at in Istanbul over the years but ... it's also one of my favourites. Why ? Excellent location, spotless and good buffet breakfast.
Not only is it close to (walkable to) all the 'must see' sights in Sultanahmet, it's also one minute from the brand new Sirkeci train station (4 minutes to Asia on the partly opened Marmaray line ... ), two minutes from the T1 tram line (for grand bazaar and Taksim [via Kabatas funicular]) and 10 minutes walk from the docks at Eminonu. (Or take the T1 tram ..).
The under publicised cheapest and enjoyable transit from Sabiha Gokcen airport is
(i) get an Istanbulcard from the kiosk behind the bus stops at the airport
(ii) get bus 11 to the terminus at Kadikoy docks (TL 3.90)
(iii) get ferry from Kadikoy docks to Eminonu (TL 1.95)
(iv) walk 10 minutes from Eminonu to hotel or with luggage walk to tram stop and get tram to Gulhane (TL 1.25; if you find you're going the wrong direction on the tram just hop off at any stop and cross the platform .. no extra charge !) and then 2 minute walk.
There's a slightly quicker route that involves getting off bus 11 a couple of stops before the terminus [next to Carrefour] and taking the Marmaray line train to Sirkeci (TL 1.95) - but only do this if you are are certain of where you have to get off the no. 11 bus (the Marmaray line Ayrilik Cesmesi station is the other side of the Carrefour shopping complex).
Ataturk airport transit is too easy to spend time describing.
Lots of restaurants nearby, though there is better food in other (less touristy) parts of town.
Second: Spotless. Always nice in a hotel.
Third: Good buffet breakfast. Not 'great' (instant coffee is still a turnoff for me as is watered down sugared orange juice) but lots of grilled vegetables, tahini, cheeses, yoghurt, sausage, eggs, fruit, bread and more ...
Rooms are modest - small bedroom, small/medium sized bathroom with shower [good water pressure], medium sized wardrobe, fridge, no safe in room but available in hotel lobby. Polycotton sheets. I had a sixth floor corner room (605) with plenty of light and well away from any street noise but one floor up from where the lift stopped (level 5).
