Make no bones about it... This hotel is 3 star. The rooms are small, the breakfast selection is not great and all though the rooms are done to a fairly good standard less attention has been given to the hallway.

However ... Imagine walking only 7 mins, wandering around, the hippodrome, through the court yard of the blue mosque past the fountain and towards aya sofia, in the evening, when all the crowds have gone. Or waking up in the morning, having your breakfast, and walking 10 minutes down the road to see the cistern basilica. The sultan Ahmet tram stop is 1 min walk away for a leisurely trip to taksim.

The hotel owners have not compromised quality with price and you get more than fair value. Definitely worth another stay if you didn't get to see all the sites on your first visit.

We stayed at this hotel a week, in April 2014, a family with a 9 years old child and we are very satisfied. The hotel is very conveniently located, at walking distance from St. Sophia, The Blue Mosque and other places of interest and the tram stop is near. A very good thing is that no cars are allowed on the street, only trams. Lots of restaurants and shops are around the hotel. It could be noisy for people who like silent surroundings, but we liked the atmosphere. We had a very nice and big room, with an extra bed, with free internet, the hotel is very clean and the services are very good. The breakfast was rich and tasty. So we would highly recommed this hotel for a full holiday in Istanbul or a city-break. Istanbul is a lovely city, we will be back for sure.

Room Tip: Rooms on superior levels have better view.

Location: This is a very good hotel that is in the center of sultanamet. You can pretty much walk from here to any of the famous sights in old town istanbul. We walked from here to Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace and it was easy to do it during spring (may be in Summer it can be somewhat hot to move around). The only challenge with Faros is since the hotel is smack in the middle of a busy roads where trams run - your pickup/dropoffs

Staff: The hotel staff were very friendly and the manager was extremely helpful in letting me know where to exchange money and so forth.

Room: We had a quadruple room - the room was ok and the beds were decent. I would not say it is a big room -but if you are in Istanbul visiting -you really shouldn't be too concerned about room as long as the rooms are clean, shower is good and the bed is comfortable. And on all of those fronts the room was fine. I mentioned the Tram and the fact that Faros is in a busy location earlier. This would automatically translate to some amount of noise that you would hear even until late night, We were all so tired when we got in around 12 every night that we slept unmindful of the noise !.

Overall: I would give the hotel a solid 41/2 stars (but since I can't do 1/2 stars I gave them the higher star rating. The price/performance aspect of Faros is one of the best among hotels around that area.

Room Tip: Higher floors would mean less noise!.

Close to everything, great service. The staff was very accommodating and friendly, breakfast was enough to get you going in the morning. We used the 'family room,' which was large enough for our family of 4, rare in Europe and the Middle East.

By far, Faros is located on the best location a tourist can ask in Istanbul. Close to all attraction, restaurant and Tram station. Whole city is just a few mins walk or a tram ride away.
Rooms are small but very practical and clean. Service varies from best to worst.
breakfast was forgettable but they were very kind to prepare for us the breakfast plates at 0530 am before we left for a tour.
If you want to experience Istanbul on foot or by tram. This is the best place to stay in Sultanahmet.

Room Tip: do not trapped by 10% discount offered at faros restaurant. Avoid the restaurant

Very nice hotel. Clean and nice rooms. Very good breakfast. The hotel also serves lunch and dinner as it also works as a restaurant with big and tasty plates. The most important thing is that you are 5' walking from the old town and Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazzar and 2' away is the tram station which can take you to the new city. Definitely suggest it!

I've been to Istanbul several times but wanting a hotel close to the old city (the Sultanahmet) led me to choose the Faros. Its only a small hotel but has very friendly staff who are always happy to give, supply, arrange, book or recommend all things connected with Istanbul.

The rooms are only small but clean, well appointed and adequate. The big thing is the convenience of its location. Its close to a tram stop for getting around, but also in easy walking distance to the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern and the Grand Bazaar.

Included with your room is a complimentary breakfast which has lots of choice so you won't lack your morning nourishment.

With the friendly staff, good breakfast, nice room and great location, I would happily recommend this hotel.
