“Great location, great hospitality”
Reviewed 19 April 2009

Don (the owner) was so wonderful and accomodating to us. We went at the beginning and at the end of our triip in Turkey and it genuinely felt as though we were returning home!! He went out of his way to help us with our needs--errands, etc. He generously upgraded our room on our second stay--wonderful, large, room (compared to a smaller, tightly organized room). Breakfast was good altho they had run out of freshly brewed coffee. The location was perfect!! One needs to take advantage of Don's offer for a taxi to pick you up at the airport since it is an obscure street and the taxi he offers is cheaper than the shuttle.

We stayed for four nights at the Ada in a deluxe room with seaview. The room was clean and the view was very lovely, but the room was awkwardly set up and a bit small. The hotel owners are perfectly nice though not quite as friendly as many of the reviews allege, and the breakfast more than met our needs. The room was very, very loud, not because of the call to prayer (which is extremely loud but so lovely it didn't bother us at all), but just because there must not be any insulation at all. Didn't get a single decent night's sleep. Not cheap nor expensive, probably a tad more than it's worth. Free wireless internet was nice! Not a bad place to stay, but I'd imagine there are better.

This hotel has been well reviewed and I'd just like to add my endorsement. The proprietor runs a tight ship, the place is spotless and well maintained, the breakfast room, on the top floor, has a wonderful view over the Sea of Marmara and the food is good. Highly recommended. The mosque across the road will wake you early with a call to prayer, but in a country where Islam is the principal faith, you can't really complain about that.

My wife and I and our two children stayed in a deluxe family suite at the Ada Hotel for a week in late March to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and had a terrific time. The set-up was two separate rooms, both of which have doors that open into a small vestibule with another lockable door opening onto the public hotel hallway. One of the rooms is huge with a king-size bed, small desk, sofa, arm chair, jacuzzi, and plenty of floor space to spare. The other room is small, but sufficient with two twin beds. Each room has its own bathroom, and both rooms have nice views over the Sea of Marmara. The rooms are fitted out with luxury touches (ie. fancy decorative moldings, hardwood floors, phone in the bathroom) and were immaculately kept. Both rooms have small refrigerators that are stocked with small and large bottles of water, soft drinks and beer. It was a nice surprise to learn that these are sold at the same prices one finds on the street – 1 TL for a large bottle of spring water.

The best part of staying at the Ada is its indefatigable proprietor, Dr. Dogen Sumengen, who was helpful and generous to us both prior to and throughout our stay. Dogen and his wife live on the ground floor, and he is seemingly available on a 7x24 basis, welcoming us to the hotel when we arrived at 2:30 am, and then again seeing us off a week later at 3:00 am. Staying at the Ada feels like being a welcome and pampered guest in Dogen's house. At my request, he purchased a 50 TL Akbil for us in advance of our stay. One day, he surprised us by paying for a complimentary guided tour of selected sights for us and four other hotel guests. The licensed guide surveyed us at the beginning of the day to find what we had already seen, and took us all to some very interesting sights that would otherwise not be immediately accessible from Sultanahment – the Dolmabahce Palace, Pierre Loti Café, the Mosque of Eyup Sultan, the Theodosian Walls, etc. Really, above and beyond what we expected from our hotel! Dogen speaks fluent English and was always willing to provide directions, make reservations and act as an interpreter by telephone when needed.

Breakfast at the Ada is outstanding, with a large array of cold items and a few cooked items each day. Breakfast is served on the roof, and we enjoyed the spectacular view.

Prospective guests should keep in mind that this is a family run hotel with a very small staff, and it is not the Ritz. Accordingly, one cannot have the same expectations as you would for a 5 star international hotel with a huge staff. (And I have stayed at many so-called 5 star international hotels which don't always meet those expectations either!) In the case of the Ada, they were out of fresh brewed coffee at breakfast the last three days of our stay, although they did have instant coffee and a huge variety of teas. Also, the refrigerator was not always restocked with large bottles of water each day, but it was easy enough to grab a couple of bottles from the stock in the lobby. And of course, there is no room service, fitness center or swimming pool, etc.

On the whole, we found the Ada to be ideal for us, and although not cheap, a very good value for the experience. We would certainly stay there again without hesitation and will recommend the Ada to anyone going to Istanbul.

we were in Istanbul to celebrate a special birthday. I had chosen Ada hotel after reading reviews in Tripadvisor. We couldn't have been more pleased. Our delux room had most gorgeous views overlooking the Mamaris sea with ships and boats sailing in an out.
The service we received was five star plus. Owner Dr Drogan was most helpful and friendly, booking us restaurants, sightseeing trips shows etc. Nothing was too much trouble for him. We travel a lot. This was the best place we've stayed. So central all historical sights within walking distance, numerous eating places within reach and yet very quiet. We certainly would be going back again

Believe all the reviews here! This is the loveliest, friendliest and most welcoming hotel my husband and I have ever stayed in. The owners, Dr Dogan and his wife (sorry, I don't know her name) live in and run the hotel and are extremely warm and helpful. They helped us with everything, suggesting restaurants, arranging food takeout (delivered to our room from various Turkish restaurants), taxis, whatever we wanted. And lots of tips on buying carpets and so on (oh, and arranged all the shipping for us and negotiated the price). We couldn't have asked for more.
The hotel is in a perfect location as well, close to all the tourist sights and many shops and the Grand Bazaar. And with a view of the sea. The breakfast was lovely, and the room was very nice too. I would recommend this hotel to anyone I know - you won't be disappointed.

I had a great time in the Ada Hotel in the historical district Sultanahmet in Istanbul. The hotel is very central, just around the corner of the Hippodrome and offers a superb view over the Sea of Marmaris. The people are very friendly and speak really excellent English.
I had a double which offered a very large comfortable bed and apart from the very modern bathroom a whirlpool in the bedroom. A bit odd of course, but wait until you've done all the sights and need to be pepped up by the waterjets! The roomfare includes a
great breakfast with lots of variety and fresh fruit. I certainly will stay there again!
