“A Great Stay! ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

The hotel room was small but sufficient. It was clean most importantly.

Our stay was over the Eid break. La Maison staff were incredibly helpful and personal assisting with everything we needed.

The rooftop terrace is fantastic for breakfast/dinner and drinking always playing some cruisey jazz remixes.

I would highly recommend.

The view from some of the rooms and the restaurant over the Bosphurus must be amongst one of the best from any hotel in Istanbul.
The hotel is at the top of a very very steep and long hill in the Besiktas suburb in the city and there lies its usp its great view and its major problem the hill. The hill is a problem because the Istanbul taxi drivers (who are truly amongst the rudest most unpleasant in the world) do not want to take short fares. However if you use the very clean efficient tram service (3 Turkish Lira per trip) or the boats at the terminus at Kabatas just 2km from the hotel or the lively restaurants at Oterkoy (1km) the taxis do not want to take you back to the hotel for a fare less than 15 TL (£4.30) from Oterkoy and 40TL (£11.50) from Kabats which in local terms as well as ours is extortionate. Several times we were therefore, out of a determination not to be exploited, left with the hill to climb.
We are both 65 and fit but it was a test and many of the friends we know would not be able to do it.
The hotel can remedy this easily by telling all guests that if they find themselves at the bottom of the hill to ring the reception who will get a car down to them to pick them up. Its so simple but they don't do it. Having stated that we have nothing but praise for the staff at the hotel who couldn't do enough for us (except send somebody to pick us up from the bottom of the hill!!).
The rooms are adequate in terms of what they offer but are now looking tired and in need of a revamp. There are however stunning views from most of the room balconies from the rooms at the rear. The best views are from 601 to 604. The bed is a simple double and in this day and age needs to be bigger. They are clean and well serviced. Modernisation would transform this hotel.
The food at the restaurant was generally good but overpriced. The panoramic view though is truely stunning and worth a premium but not the current premium which also seems to be relying on good food awards from 2004 to support it. With a moderate investment and good marketing this could be transformed into a top class restaurant independent of the hotel.
We were booked into this hotel by relatives of my sons wife. The staff, the cleanliness, the value in Istanbul terms, the adequate rooms, the stunning view (hill apart but the management can sort that easily) warrant a three rating but the potential here with some investment and marketing to establish a modern top quality boutique hotel is considerable.

Room Tip: For the view choose rooms from 601 to 604

This is a quaint and cosy hotel located in a great area, albeit up a large hill.

The hotel felt warm and welcoming. The views from the terrace and the rooftop restaurant were amazing. The breakfast was ok - nothing special. And the rooms were fine, if a little dated.

There are cats that wander around the hotel which was slightly off-putting.

Other than that it was a very cosy hotel with amazing views and I would definitely return.

I agree with Alexandre A, this is an excellent hotel. It was chosen for us by our future daughter-in-law, who is Turkish, and what a choice! We found it an excellent location for getting to the main sites in the city and the views from our rooms and the top floor restaurant were stunning, over the Bosphorus and across to the Golden Horn and the Blue Mosque. From what our daughter in law told us, it was also very good value for Istanbul, but we can't confirm this as we didn't look at everything else. We arrived late one afternoon and therefore ate at the hotel that evening. We were going to eat in the city the following evening, but we enjoyed our meal so much, we went for another meal there. the bedrooms were all we wanted, and the hotel staff were always very helpful and friendly. If we went back to Istanbul (and we would like to do so), we would definitely return to La Maison, as we had no problems with the room or the breakfast.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony, well worth the bit extra for the fantastic views

Great hotel with an excellent view, relatively cheap, highly recommended for couples. The only "bémol" is that it is slightly far from the historical center-- one should take a taxi (very cheap) and pass though frequent traffic jams. However, there is boat going to the center. Also the hotel is in vicinity of a big park of Yildiz -- fun for joggers!

I chose La Maison because it was close to my work location - which was just down the hill. The experience was all-together comfortable and average. The rooms were clear yet small and sparsely decorated (even the upgrade). The breakfast on the top floor restaurant had an amazing view but lacking in selection. The staff said hello but not much more.

If you're on a budget and La Maison is close to where you need to be - I'd suggest it.

Room Tip: Half of rooms have a great view - push for one of these

Our favorite part of the hotel is the staff treatment, they are really professional and welcoming. The hotel lobby is really nice and inviting. The restaurant and the terrace views are amazing, so is the staff. They were really nice to our kids and made a great effort to wait for us before closing the kitchen on New Year's Eve. I will definately recommend this place and write about it in my Traveling Blog. The only thing we didn't like are the rooms, they seem outdated and you would think they are average rooms from any hotel, they are missing the cozy french decor you would expect of La Maison. Also, the bathtub and bathroom were not that clean. It is really close to the Bosphorous river, located on a hill on a charming street. It is close to the shopping and student life and near Taksim. Overall, the place is excellent, but not worth the price for the outdated rooms.
