Just arrived home late last night...after 3 wonderful days in Istanbul. We chose to stay in the Sultanhamet district since I knew we'd want to be doing a lot of walking to the major historical sites on this first trip to Istanbul. I made my decision on the reviews I had read on this hotel and was not disappointed. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We splurged on the bigger room with king bed, top 4th floor with a private terrace. The room was VERY spacious and had a couch that could have likely been used for a single bed. The bathroom was modernized with nice ceramic wall tile and 2 showers (one stall and one in the tub). The room itself had a nice authenitic Turkish feel. I did not think we'd have time to use the private balcony...but I was wrong. All 3 days when we arrived back to the hotel around 5pm we enjoyed sitting outside, with a view of the park next door and/or looking down below at the side street activity. Each morning I woke up, I also went on the balcony for a bit and could see the Bosphorus in the other direction distance...the cruise ships docked. The tramway line was at the corner so convenient although we never used it. I found the area to be very quiet in the evening...the front entrance is located on a side street. We enjoyed a supper at their fish restaurant next door and also a roof top dinner at the sister hotel restaurant, Imbat, on our first evening which was excellent. Prices were all reasonable in my opinion. My only complaint with the room is the fact that the king bed did not really have a true king "flat" cover sheet....it wasn't long enough and easily got untucked from the bed. We got used to it the 2nd night but perhaps something that could be improved. It is almost as though the sheet was made for a Queen bed. The quality of the bedding though was very good. The breakfast was very good. The day time concierge was excellent in helping us each day in getting my plans sorted out. He always pointed us in the right direction, made our dinner reservations each evening and suggested a wonderful Nargile place not too far from the Grand Bazaar to experience a more "local" place to experience a smoking pipe and some tea. Thanks to all the team for making our 3-day stay in Istanbul a pleasurable experience. P.S. if you are looking to take out Euros at an ATM machine...try the HSBC machine near Hagia Sophia ...we tried several in different locations to no avail but this one worked with our Royal Bank Canadian debit card. The hotel will give you an 11% discount if you pay cash so it was worth looking for one.
Sağ ol !!!!!
