“Best location, warmest welcome!”
Reviewed 10 August 2012

My flight from JFK arrived in Istanbul at 5:45 a.m. An hour later the taxi dropped me off at Berk Guest House. Despite my very early arrival, I was welcomed with a cup of coffee and offered a spot on the amazing little roof top terrace. There, I could relax until breakfast was served and enjoy incredible 360 degree views of Istanbul...boats in the Sea of Marmara, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia. It's difficult to overstate just what an ideal location Berk is in. My thanks to Jesmin, her family and staff, for unbeatable hospitality. This was my first visit to Istanbul, but I'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: July was very hot. My ground floor room was exposed to some late afternoon sun, so did not cool off...

My friend and I were made very welcome at this small, very centrally located, family hotel. From the roof top area there are wonderful views of the Bosphorus on one side and the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia on the other.

We enjoyed our breakfasts and the rooms were clean and comfortable.

I would recommend it mainly becasue of its location and price.

Room Tip: Small hotel but in view of its price perfect for the budget tourist but not if you want spas and bar...

Yesim's laughter and perpetual joy resonate through and beyond the walls of Berk's Guest House. Even before descending the stairs to the breakfast patio, I would hear her velvety-smooth voice echo into the foyer (likely to be chatting with another guest about valuable travel advice), transforming suddenly into an excited, "Günaydın!" as I peek shyly into the room. Whether this is your first time in Istanbul, or your third visit (in my case), Berk's is the perfect place to stay due to its clean and spacious facilities, fantastic rooftop patio (and view), satiating breakfast, incomparable hospitality, and its impeccable location (right in the heart of Sultanahmet, it's five minutes away from Divanyolu [tramway], and right across from the Four Seasons Hotel [this landmark comes in handy when the taxi driver is baffled by your attempt to pronouce the address in Turkish]). Last but not least, it's the passion that Yesim and Ahmet feel for Istanbul that really makes them fantastic hosts. No questions are left unanswered - they will bend over backwards to provide you with everything you need to make Istanbul the love of your life.

Cheers to Yesim, Ahmet, Derin and all the staff!

Just back from a week's vacation in Istanbul; my first trip there, but with experienced friends, who returned to Berk after 15 years. Really lovely family-owned and -run small hotel across the street from the Four Seasons (formerly the prison where "MIdnight Express" was filmed) with views of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque from the amazing roof deck. Staff were all very helpful with restaurant recommendations, directions, and reservations. What makes the place is Yeshim, whose grandma's house is now Berk. The warmth and openness of her welcome really makes coming back to the hotel after a day of sightseeing or dinner feel like coming home.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top (4th floor) were great; one faces the sea and the other has its own private balcony...

There is no warmer welcome that the one you'll get at Berk. Rooms (and beds) are comfortable, all have en suite baths, and the front room on the 4th floor (elevator -- no need to climb) has a private patio overlooking the splashy Four Seasons across the street and affords views of the bustling neighborhood of Sultanahmet, with the minarets of the Blue Mosque and Ayasofya off to left and right. Easy walk to those two monuments and the Topkapi Palace, the #1 tram line, and loads of other places you'll want to see. The other 4th-floor room has a sweeping view of the Sea of Marmara, Princes Islands, and the Asian side of Istanbul. Excellent breakfast on ground floor with a small, cozy patio out back. But most of all, wonderful conversation with the owners and other guests who come from all over the world and return to Berk whenever they can.

Room Tip: We favor the top floor for quiet, views, a feeling of privacy.

Rooms were very spacious and quite, bed was comfortable, bathroom was small but clean. The location could not be better (3 minutes walk from Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya). Owner was very pleasant, well informed and helpful. I definitely recommend this hotel.

This very good a comfortable budget accomodation. My room was not big but spacious enough for solo traveller. Free Wi-Fi is available.

Very nice terrace with wonderful views over Blue Mosque, Aya Sofya and The Golden Horn.

The hotel is familiy ran and you can always depend on nice chat and friendly advice about what to do in Istanbul.

Minibar in the room would be nice addition as well small table to sit with notebook ;-)
