We found the Mosaic Restaurant many years ago on a trip to Sultanhamet and return there for lunch every time we are in Istanbul. The staff are very friendly and always remember us without any prompting. There is a large menu and the food is always wonderful at very reasonable prices.
They must have heard us wish my mother a Happy 84th Birthday, and as a surprise brought her a beautiful and delicious cake which the 7 of us all enjoyed.
There are many good restaurants in the Sultanhamet area but I would never go any where else but the Mosaic. The lovely food and charming staff make it stand out from the rest.

Located in the heart of "restaurant row" in Sultanahmet, this little corner restaurant served very creative and delicious non-traditional turkish food: try penne pasta with arugula and pomegranate sauce! You can sit either outdoors to watch the colorful street traffic or indoors on a colder night ( we did both): the restaurant is divided into many smaller dining rooms on 3 floors, almost as if you were dining in someones home.

Many complain that the restaurants in the Sultanahment area are filled with nothing but tourists. This is largely true and the same applies to Mosaic. Still, the food here is a little more interesting and better prepared, the fish was absolutely fresh, and the prices -- while slightly higher than others in the neighborhood -- were reasonable.

It's easily possible to spend less for better food -- but we couldn't accomplish the feat without leaving Sultanahmet or spending a fortune.

Bottom line -- you won't make this a destination restaurant but if you're in the area, it's worth seeking out from the others.

Although some reviews have been poor, our experience at Mosaic was a very good one: yes, tourists are there but that is the location and, yes, it is expensive comparatively (especially the wine) but that is location and quality. The food was excellent and very good quality - very fresh and well grilled fish, and extremely good lamb done in traditional style. The service was good and understated and the atmosphere excellent. Really, this is worth a visit
