“Expensive Meyhane”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2013

After reading about Meyhane we decided to venture up to Beyoğlu on our 3rd night in Istanbul. Food & wine was overpriced, mezze were poor & staff were disinterested. Turned out to be our most expensive meal in istanbul at 190 TL, which only included a bottle of wine. The area seemed buzzing on a sat night and full of locals, but definitely not worth the price for pretty average food.

“Good mezze and average mains”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

Refik offered us a plate of mixed mezze to start with. All were delicious and very typical. For mains we had sea bass and a kebab. The fish was grilled simply and was delicious. The kebab was slightly disappointing, small portion of touch meat. Service was very good. Recommended overall.

“Nice mezze”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2013

This is a comfortable restaurant with a good fixed mezze dinner. Negotiate a good fixed price and you will enjoy an evening here with some good traditional food.

“Honest”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2013

It is a traditional small restaurat that is worth a short stop, mainly for the nice turkish ambiance. The food was just OK though. Their wine (by the glass) was poor and a bit expensive for what it was, so avoid it. The service was nice and friendly. Prices were OK as well. Their mix of starters is quite good. The main course I've ordered (lamb chops) was just average.

“Cosy and Friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2012

Refik was my wife's favorite restaurant in Istanbul. Located in Beyoğlu on a side street, Refik is an authentic "meyhane" or "drinking spot," with a wide range of local wines and "Raki." Because it's off the beaten track, it's frequented by friendly Istanbul natives. It's also a food lover's paradise, with trays full of hot and cold "mezes" or starters to choose from. One can actually make a meal from the mezes selection, but they also have an excellent selection of meats and fish. Cosy, casual, and very reasonably priced, no reservations are required.
