Description: Sofyalı 9 Restaurant; is a plain, cosy and chiv tavern, situated in Istanbul’s cosmopolitan district Beyoglu Asmalımescit, at Sofyalı Street which it’s been named after, is still being a blissful stop for the frequenters for over 15 years now. Its building which was built at the end of 1800’s still bears the trace of the years and the district it’s situated. The flowers, vintage photographs, objects and paintings at its halls, pull off the guests from their daily life and invite them to a sincere, cosy and friendly enviroment for at least a while. Sofyalı 9, wich the delicaciescan be enjoyed with either wine or raki, continues to open its doors between 13:00 and 01:00 hours everyday…

“Local favourite and very atmospheric”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

This is a bustling restaurant and a favourite of the locals including a friend who lived in Istanbul for 14 years and said it was his favourite restaurant in Istanbul. The small dining room is virtually part of the street scene and everybody is having a good time including families with young (and very delightful, well-behaved Turkish children). Try the Albanian fried and diced liver or the marinated anchovies for a starter. Excellent market fish (sea bass was sampled) and tasty lamb chops. The meatball however were a bit lacking in umph. The menu is small and this is not gourmet cooking, but the overall quality and friendly local atmosphere makes for a very enjoyable evening. Very good value for money.

“Great food and service”
Reviewed 19 May 2014 via mobile

First up, we went into the wrong restaurant and we were planning to leave once we saw the limited menu and the extremely limited vegetarian options. However, we decided to stick on and I'm glad we did because the mezze was delicious and our main meals of mushrooms and boreki was out of this world.
The place is cozy and the service was really good despite it being a very busy night.
My only complaint is that we weren't told that the feta cheese we were freely given would be charged to us.
Otherwise, this was an amazing place for dinner.

“Tourist trap - Very bad service and overpriced”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

We went there in our second night in Istanbul. We were offered cheese and other starters without even having a chance to look at the menu or ordering the drinks. After the starters we had to wait a long time before seeing the menu... And see the prices of the starters we had just eaten... The main courses also took a long time after we ordered them.
The service was very rude and pushy. They really made us feel uncomfortable.
Food overpriced and average quality.
I will advise my friends to avoid this restaurant when they go to Istanbul.

“Cosy, quality and great meze”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

We were a large group of friends and they accommodated us with ease, good humour and diligence. Great meze and even better mains made the place special.

“Food OK but overpriced for the quality”
Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

This is the 1st place where we had dinner. We chose it because it was in our guidebook. The mezze dishes were very small and they made a mistake with the mains. They brought us dishes which costed double what we had ordered. We complained to the waiter and managed to pay for the price of what we had really ordered. The food is OK, but I wouldn't go back there again.
