“Sitting here, drinking Raki...”
Reviewed 27 June 2014 via mobile

Great staff, amazing food and a really cool spot to just kick back and relax! We started off with some drinks and had a wide array of mezes, which was absolutely amazing! The chef joined us at our table and it was amazing!

Thank Siegfried G

“Beautiful setting and excellent food”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Great menu choices for our family of 4 ( one fairly picky daughter). The staff are extremely friendly and the food was wonderful. Sitting under the shade of the trees while enjoying a great meal was divine!

“Wonderful meze selection and friendly service”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

This was our last night of four in Selcuk and we had previously seen the lovely selection of mezes. We chose four of my favourites and they were all delicious. My partner asked if there was liver and the chef said yes and then his wife went to the butchers to buy it!! This and my chicken shish were beautifully cooked.
The service was attentive without being fussy and there was no encouragement to write a Tripadvisor review-which seems to be a feature of some parts of Turkey.
We also had the pleasure of learning a bit of Turkish from 7 year old Mahmet , the owners son.
A very pleasant evening

“Rip off artist, says one price and the bill arrives with inflated total”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

What started out as a good meal ended badly when the bill arrived and the chef/host charged more than he quoted. Both my wife and I confirmed the price of the wine twice at ordering (during which time our host boasted about his English which was indeed very good, so no misunderstanding). This is an old trick here in Turkey we were aware of. Unfortunately this fellow thinks 10 Turkish Lira is more important than his reputation. Eat elsewhere, no meal is so good that getting cheated deliberately justifies.

“A delightful meal!”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

We really enjoyed our meal at Okumus Mercan. The ambiance is what first attracted us --- the tables are set beneath an inviting, vine-covered canopy, with a fun (Disney-esque) nautical ship fountain in the center. The table linens and chair coverings were really delightful --- modern pop-art orange and brown colors that were both whimsical and stylish. The attention to design detail really made it stand out from the other sidewalk cafes.
Service was wonderful and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered zucchini fritters and a yogurt dill dip for our meze. They were both amazing! I could have filled up on the mezes alone. The bread basket was also a pleasant surprise --- filled with a variety of fresh breads. It was a nice change from the typical bland bread served at many Turkish cafes.
But my entree was really the showstopper. I ordered a chicken casserole with cheese, which came in a delightful little cast-iron crock, sitting atop a decorative trivet which hid a sterno flame inside, keeping the food bubbling hot while I ate it. (It came with a spoon to scoop the food out onto your plate). The chicken and vegetables were served in a tomato-y sauce, with a hint of curry flavoring. The cheese on top was plentiful and delicious. It was one of the best entrees I had in Turkey.
My husband ordered a mixed grill plate, with mini lamb kebabs, beef kebabs, and grilled chicken. He thought it was tasty. (But not as amazing as my chicken casserole!). He had a rice pudding for dessert, which he absolutely loved.
All in all, this restaurant was wonderful. The atmosphere, service, and food were all top-notch. We would happily dine here again!
