“Family over accommodations”
Reviewed 9 February 2014

This review is mostly about Wallabies' hospitality more than the accommodations. Yea like most of the reviews say, the hotel isn't that great BUT Jeff and his family really do their best to make their hotel you're home.
We felt like part of their family and when we checked out, Jeff made sure to give us his contact information and told us that if we needed anything while traveling here to give him a call. After living in Turkey for 6 months, I can tell you that that was the best accommodation/help a person can offer. We definitely called Jeff as soon as we left Selçuk and he came through for us.

Not only does Wallabies offer excellent hospitality, but they have the BEST food EVER.
After traveling Greece and arriving to Turkey for the first time, our first meal was at Wallabies and honestly we are thankful. Everything on their menu was, as Jeff would say, DELICIOUS.
Don't miss out on their yummy dishes, all made by Jeff's parents.

Wallabies, we love you.

We stayed here for one night and the room was dusty, smelly and very old.
Especially, the bathroom is mouldy and leaking from the tap which is disgusting.
This place was supposed to be renovated according to Lonely Planet but our room certainly looked 40 years old. It was cold and the provided blanket which I felt like I didn't want to use.
The owner doesn't seem to be willing to go out of his way to help us.
On the good side, they gave us a room with an extra bed. The view was nice overlooking the ruined aqueducts, the location was central. The price was only 70TL but we paid a few lilas more elsewhere for ten times more luxury. Overall we are very disappointed.
I never want to come back to this hotel.

We stayed here in August and were satisfied with our stay. They were very kind and helpful. They put us in a stinky room to begin with but moved us when we complained. The wifi only worked in the hallway...luckily we didn't need it at that point. We learnt later on that most cheap hotels in Turkey that guarantee wifi usually only have it in reception or the restaurant areas! The beds were not that comfortable to be honest but at least our room was clean and ESPECIALLY our bathroom. They must use bleach unlike every other hotel in Turkey we went to! Breakfast was amazing...they make an amazing Menemen dish there which was one of the best we had ever had. Also, dinner....incredible! We loved breakfast so much that we had dinner at their patio restaurant. We had the chicken crepes which were to die for and as an appetizer the bread and dips (eggplant, hummus and cucumber i think) which was also impressively flavourful. The meals were worth the stay.

Worth mentioning too...their book selection at the front was awesome, comes in handy when you lose your lonely planet book or you want to do some reading on some of the sites you will be seeing that day.

Room Tip: You gotta eat here! Turkish food at its finest!

The host was very welcoming but is a persistent soul. Worst was that it was particularly annoying to be told insistently that there was no problem with the hot water (there was in fact no hot water, despite running it for for over 20 minutes on each occasion we tried to have a shower) and that the WIFI worked ('There has never been a problem with the wifi'), when it never worked on the 2 floors we were on over the 2 days we stayed at Wallabies (having to go down to reception as the only way in to access WIFI wasn't consistent with Wallabies advertising or advice on taking a room).

We chose not to trust the bad reviews and we were terribly mistaken.Nothing was functioning in the room: no hot water,no air condition, very dark, old and extremely dirty. We asked at the reception if they could change our room or make any repairs but we were arrogantly refused. In the middle of the night we wanted to go to sleep in the car because it was just impossible to sleep in that dump.Avoid at any cost!

We stopped at Selcuk for a day to visit the ruins of Ephesus. The stay was comfortable but the hotel is in need of repairs - you will easily see that from the very doorstep. The well laid out restaurant outside is pretty relaxing after a long day with the fountains and the old world charm of monumental structures around.
However, the owner will play out an entire documentary on the dishes they serve and why we should eat at their restaurant only. I love the enthusiasm but he should realise that you don't keep selling to tourists all the time. Especially at the hotel, which is akin to the home on a trip.
The owner's wife is a more considerate lady who executes her task to perfection and does not go about selling stuff.

I recently stayed 2 nights at this hotel. It is in a great location, right in the heart of Selcuk but I think that is about the best thing you can say for it. We were told we were to be in the recently refurbished rooms. Yes, they had been recently refurbished but so badly they might as well not have bothered. Handles were off drawers, skirting boards were broken and missing and the materials used were cheap and flimsy. The hot water was on and off...just lucky if you got a hot shower. Our first night we dined in the hotel restaurant, which is outside in the town square. It is a lovely setting but when we came to order from the menu the hotel owner just said "I'll bring 3 different dishes -( 3 of each - for our party of 9)- and you can work out among yourselves who has which"! No choice, then. The next morning at breakfast he insisted on spooning out our cornflakes and hovering over us least we take too much, barking at people who didn't queue up correctly. Mind you there was precious little to take! he made us feel like school children. He even greatly over quoted me on a taxi fair, as I learned later. I think he was in cahoots with the driver. I would not recommend this hotel.

Hello
First of all thank you for choosing us. Some problems could be anywhere.
But there is hot water 24 hours a day. There are some limitations to our rooms for the new made. and we are doing our best to resolve. Thank you for your comment.
