Owner description: This fine example of Seljukian architecture was purposely built with an asymmetrical style along with several Ottoman style elements, which are revealed in the turquoise and blue faience mosaics.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed 1 May 2012

After seeing a number of fabulous mosques in Turkey, this one was thoroughly disappointing. The exterior was unremarkable, the interior was thoroughly plain. However I found it interesting, and a bit humorous, that in a niche inside the mosque was a gas powered lawn mower!

“Lovely”
Reviewed 26 April 2012

We could see the Isa Bey mosque from our rented cottage, but saved it until our last day. Outside it can be a bit noisy and crowded, and like many places suffers a bit from tourist shops and somewhat aggressive shoe-shine men, but within its courtyard it is peaceful. There are clear rules about visiting mosques posted at the entrance to the mosque itself: women should cover their heads and shoulders and wear modest skirts or trousers (some scarves are provided just inside the door), shoes should be removed by everyone, and there is a place to leave optional donations. No photos during prayer times, and in fact you are asked to wait respectfully outside. It is a lovely building, and I found it is light enough inside, even in the late afternoon, to photograph well without use of flash. Don't miss it.

“Save your time for the Blue Mosque in Istanbul”

It's interesting for a few pictures, but hike up the hill to St. John's for a more interesting experience.
