Owner description: Built by Julius Aquila in 110 A.D. as a memorial for his father, the Celsus Library is one of the finest buildings in Ephesus. The two-story building contained over 12,000 hand-written books, making it one of the largest library collections of its time.

Visit once Ephesus once it opens at 8:00 by the north gate to bypass tour groups. Unbelievably beautiful

“Magic”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Get there EARLY - buy your tickets as the gates open and head to the Library right away to get 10 minutes to yourself. The Library is mesmerizing. You can just gaze at it in wonder for ages. If you don't get there early it is still amazing but you'll be sharing your experience with hundreds of others.

Take some water and a hat and prepare to spend 2 hours taking in the wonders of Ephesus. What an incredible place where you see and feel the history.

The Celsus Library always amazes me every time I see it. It is always neat to see something that old in such good condition.

“One of the best Sights”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

Walking around the corner and coming upon this was remarkable. probably one of the best stand alone attractions I have seen. The facade is constructed in a deep three dimensional architecture, whose appearance keeps changing with the position of the sun causing a different light and shadow effect.

A great attraction that has been extremely well preserved.
