Owner description: Built by Julius Aquila in 110 A.D. as a memorial for his father, the Celsus Library is one of the finest buildings in Ephesus. The two-story building contained over 12,000 hand-written books, making it one of the largest library collections of its time.

“Awe-inspiring”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

It's only the facade unfortunately, but even that much is enough to make you stand and stare for a while. It's beautiful and well preserved and ancient, just what everyone wants! Overcrowded but totally worth it.

“Impressive library! But hot work to get there!”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

The approach to this beautiful structure has some challenging walking - slightly downhill, the roadway can be slippery, hat is essential and water too. Crowds are with you, so finding a spot to photograph without strangers in your view is challenging. Fortunately the library has fantastic ceilings! Quite amazing to imagine what it was like 100's of years ago. Our tour guide helped us to understand the site better, so some information of some sort will help make sense of the site.

“What a place! Don't forget your hat and your bottle of water!”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

One of my favourite places! and I visited this place few times now at least 5 times... Make sure you have some sort of a little history book (or you can use the internet on your phone like I did) so you know what's going on around you. It's going to be a long walk around this ancient city, it's not just made out of the library, be ready! make sure you take plenty of water and a hat with you. There is going to be fee to the place once you pay you can pretty much go anywhere in Ephesus ancient city except the covered area near the library you got to pay extra to go in there it has things like ancient mud brick houses etc. The closest airport is the international İzmir Adnan Menderes airport(ADB) and the closest port is in kusadasi which goes to the Greek Islands, Italy etc. so anyway take a hat, info about the place and plenty of water when you visit. I hope you enjoy it like I did

“The best site in Ephesus ”
Reviewed 10 July 2014 via mobile

This is by far the most beautiful building in Ephesus and it, alone, makes a visit worthwhile. If those walls could talk!!
