“Our Third Visit!”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

This is our third visit to Hotel Nilya, and we are so pleased to report that it is as wonderful as ever! We splurged for their spacious “suite,” number 12 which provided us with some much needed extra room, as well as the use of the wonderful second floor terrace. Their breakfasts are among the best we have had in our six weeks in Turkey, and someone there knows very well how to scramble an egg! The staff members are all exceedingly friendly and helpful, and the hotel is kept in exceptional repair. We are very much looking forward to a return visit to Hotel Nilya when next we are in Turkey! And don’t forget dinner at their sister hotel, Hotel Bella. Their set menu for soup, two starters, main course and dessert for 25 TL is an exception bargain, as well as being very tasty!

Room Tip: We like the extra space in room 12; ask for it specifically!

Initially our room was confirmed at their sister hotel Bella, since Nilya did not have any rooms available on the first floor. It was providence that a room got available and we received a confirmatory message as we were touring Cappadocia. And as we entered the beautiful courtyard of Nilya, we knew our choice was right. :-)

Our room was a good size room and beautifully decorated. It was on the first floor and a corner room. Though it did not have any seating arrangements right outside, they do have a kind of common seating at the other corner of the floor or else you have the courtyard downstairs to relax and chat.
The room was also next to the stairs and we were initially concerned about noise, but we did not get disturbed at night at all. The only window overlooked the stairs (so no view, but then how much time do you really spend in the room at a place like Selcuk) and there is a huge, bright lantern for the stairs and we wondered whether it will disturb our sleep by throwing too much light into the room - well, for us the curatin was sufficient. The room wasn't entirely dark but good enough for us to sleep. I also read another review here wherein the people had put some towels on the window to make the room completely dark.

The bathrooms had adequate amenities and the shower worked very well.

The breakfast at the courtyard was fabulous - the food and the way it was served. This was possibly the only place where breakfast got served to us, for every where else there is a buffet, which means self service too. The way they set up the table and set the condiments is impressive. And what a lovely atmosphere to start your day's first meal with.
The experience was so fabulous, that we changed our decision to have one breakfast at the rooftop restairant in Bella and decided to stick with our hotel, NIlya.

And here I must talk about Mr Erdal, the owner of both Bella and Nilya - professional to the core and customer focused. He gives a complimentary service to all his guests to the Ephesus ruins (both pick up and drop). And when I expressed a desire to also see the Temple of Artemis, he complied and also took us to the Seven Sleepers, on our way to the ruins. He was concerned enough for our lunch and took us enroute to a place where we could get some packed gozleme (delicious) to munch on as we toured the Ephesus ruins. Now, if this is not customer service, then i wonder what is........ thank you Mr Erdal !
And he was there to pick us up at the designated time too.

No TV, no mini-bar but we loved our stay in Nilya. What a charming little gem!

We stayed in this hotel during March. The owner Erdal was very helpful. He drove us to Ephesus and seven caves and loaned a guidebook too.
The hotel is near to St. John Basilica. We stayed at the second floor. The room was beautifully decorated. They are a little small but comfortable.
Overall I would say the hotel's excellent.

For visitors to Ephesus, staying in Selcuk is a must, and I would highly recommend staying at Hotel Nilya. Each room is so clean, with beautiful Turkish décor. The bathrooms are beautiful!!! Completed updated with tumbled marble and a rain shower. The hotel is perched on a very quiet residential street/alley overlooking the beautiful valley. As other reviewers have stated, the hotels courtyard with a lemon tree in the middle is so picturesque, quiet and relaxing.

Service was exemplary! Erdal, our host and hotel owner did everything possible to make your stay as memorable as possible. His staff were extremely professional and friendly. Erdal coordinated our airport transfer from Izmir airport to the Hotel and it was timely and effortless. Erdal drove us to/from Ephesus, the 7 Sleepers, and Virgin Mary’s house. On our free day, Erdal coordinated a last minute excursion to Hieropolis and Pamukkale for us. Fantastic!

Ancient sights and the town center are so close, and easily walked. St John’s Basilica and Isa Bey Mosque are only 2 blocks from the hotel. The remains of the Temple of Artemis is viewable from the hotel and is approx. 400 yards away.

Complimentary Breakfast included a wide variety of fresh fruit, olives, cheese, and the most beautiful fresh eggs. We enjoyed a bottle of wine from their well-stocked bar with a bowl of nuts each evening relaxing next to the fountain in the courtyard. We enjoyed a traditional Turkish dinner on the rooftop of his sister hotel, Hotel Bella, just a block away.

It is hard to find fault with anything during our stay, but if I was pressed to find something that was not fantastic with the hotel, it would be that one of our twin beds (Room 6) had rather squeaky springs that occasionally kept woke us up. We laughed about it, but a little oil would do it.

We would recommend this hotel without reservation.

Room Tip: Although twin rooms were not ideal, we enjoyed room 6 for it's second floor ovation and quietnes...

A delightful, small hotel built around a shaded, leafy courtyard in the old part of town. Truly lovely with small but perfectly formed rooms and modern bathrooms. Staff were friendly and helpful (everyone is loaned a book about Ephesus during their stay) and the breakfast was a good turkish spread with the option to also have cooked eggs in whatever style you want.

I would say this is the better option vs the sister property - Hotel Bella. It is quieter and has lovely outdoor space off the rooms.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms open on to a terrace with views to the coast. The "suite" is a bit larger a...

The location was great, walk a few steps and you are amongst ancient pillars and ruins. Great restaurants a few steps away. We had 4 rooms and all were great.

Our third leg of our trip to Turkey brought us to Selcuk, Izmir. Initially, we had tried to book at Hotel Bella, but the hotel informed us that they were fully booked. But the hotel referred us to their sister hotel, Nilya, that was a short block and a half away.

Arriving late in the evening, our cab driver had a little trouble finding Nilya until he asked a local, who directed our driver to the hotel. Seldar came out and greeted us and brought in our bags. Then Erdal, one of the co-owners of Nilya and Bella, came from Bella to greet us. He gave us a briefing on Ephesus and scheduled the time for our shuttle there the next morning, which was complementary.

The room was nice-sized and beautifully adorned in Turkish carpets and ceramics. Loved the modern bathroom. The hotel has complementary Wi-Fi with a strong connection. (yelp.com/biz_photos/nily…) (yelp.com/biz_photos/nily…)

The hotel is on two levels that opens to a beautiful courtyard, where breakfast is served in the morning and where you can relax after a day touring Ephesus. The hotel serves a Turkish breakfast plate of fruits and veggies, bread and jams, eggs cooked to order, and coffee and tea. A nice healthy breakfast to start your day.

Meeting at Bella, Erdal drove us to Ephesus for our visit of the Roman ruins and arranged to pick us up three hours later. When he picked us up and brought us to a restaurant for gozleme, a delicious Turkish pancakes (quesadilla). He then bought us to Cemetery of Seven Sleepers before bringing us back to the Hotel. Later, for a small fee, we arranged for a ride, which was handled by one of the hotel workers, to the site of the House of Mary.
When we returned back to Bella, the other co-owner, Nazmi, gave us a tour of his carpet and ceramic tile store located next to Bella. He provides an informative presentation to carpets and shows pride in his carpets.

Overall, we had a great stay at Nilya Hotel. So happy that Bella directed us to their sister hotel. Great friendly service from owners and the staff. Beautiful and serene hotel with a nice courtyard. Hotel is also located three short blocks to a restaurant and shopping area.
