“Best position in Selcuk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2013

Set in a beautiful position in Selcuk underneath the Baptistry and with views of the Temple of Artemis. Small comfortable rooms but our shower room could have done with a bit of maintenance. Gorgeous pool and garden, lovely rooftop terrace/restaurant which was great for breakfast.

Ria is a most wonderful host always ready with a smile and any request is fulfilled promptly. The rooms are comfortable, clean and have good space, the hotel a short walk to the town centre. Apart from the mosque - which is very difficult to avoid in Turkey! - it's in a peaceful location. Thank you for a delightful stay.

The Akay Hotel in Selcuk, Turkey, is a place of sheer delight. It is located about a half mile from the center of town right next to the Isa Bey mosque and only three blocks away from the Basilica of St. John. If you walk four blocks down a side street you can catch the local bus which stops at the site of the ancient city of Ephesus. Ria, the manager is extremely gracious and a great source of information. In the afternoon you can sit out by the immaculate swimming pool and watch the swallows dip in the water and make their nests. The rooms are very clean and feature modern bath rooms with inclosed showers. The price is very reasonable. There is also a Turkish beer garden only steps from the front door.

Room Tip: There are two buildings: one is the older original hotel built around a court yard; the other is a...

Paying EUR 50 a night for a crappy hotel like this (horrible reception, unprofessional staff, no hot water in the dirty and stinking bathrooms, dirty bed and linen... List goes on!)
Stayed for only one of two nights (originally booked) and moved to Jimmy's Place (moderately better staff but a significantly better room at EUR 35)

Although this is an average hotel without major amenities, I found the staff to be over and above friendly and helpful during a terrible illness I encountered while in that area. The pool looks inviting and would be enjoyed during warmer weather I'm sure.

Room Tip: We had a nice corner room which was quiet.

Our family stayed at Hotel Akay for 2 nights in October. We stayed at many hotels during this trip to Turkey and our choices were mostly based on TripAdvsior reviews. I am also reviewing the hotels myself and agree with their high ratings. However, this is one hotel that we were very disppointed with and can't understand the high ratings - may be there is a nicer wing and different experience. The hotel is conveniently located and owner Ria speaks good english and is friendly, but it ends here. We stayed in the old building where reception is located. The room was fairly modest and also had leaking shower with stains on the bathroom floor. The breakfast just OK and does not have any juice - you can buy at highly inflated prices if you wish. The owner had promised to drop at and pick-up from Efesus site (I have email conversation with her on this), but she refused when we requested her for that. Since we wanted to have good time, we did not argue about it and took bus instead. Overall, this hotel is very highly priced for it has to offer. There are many other better hotels nearby. Would not recommend this hotel.
