We recently stayed for 3 nights in this charming hotel located just a 10 minute walk from the center of town. The property includes a beautiful garden, pool/lounge area, lobby, restaurant, and ivy-covered walkways from the main building to the restaurant and front entrance. Our pretty double room (Room 207 if I'm not mistaken) was located at the end of a hallway on the 2nd floor, which meant that it had 2 windows, one facing the garden and the other a tree and wall. There was a nice breeze when both windows were open (the A/C worked quietly and efficiently at night). The spacious room was large enough to fit a king-size bed, dressing table, luggage stand, 2 nightstands, 2 wardrobes and a sitting chair. There is a small, flat-screen TV as well.

As this is a renovated Ottoman-style former mansion, the space allotted to the bathroom is small, but this is to be expected really. The shower is on the small side and it did leak a bit so we made sure to keep the bathroom towel nearby -- not a big deal. We did not have an opportunity to dine at the restaurant but we did have breakfast twice there (not included in our room price) -- a wide selection of delicious jams (try the rose petal!), breads, orange juice and yogurt, all homemade, are available. The hot dishes included eggs and sausages, tho these would have been better if they were kept a bit warmer.

Emails to the hotel were quickly answered by Hakan; he confirmed our room, as well as helped arranged for airport pickup.

We spent one delightful afternoon lounging by the beautiful pool before heading to Ephesus (in summer, wait til 4 PM when the crowds leave!!) -- such a wonderful break from the heat! Plenty of loungers, pillows and towels available, as well as a bar. The garden is beautiful and probably looks even nicer in spring/early summer when the flowers are in full bloom. Look for the resident turtles and doves that are kept on site!

Lastly, I have to mention a particular incident that I think aptly reflects the generous spirit of the Turkish people. We had arranged for a transfer shuttle with the hotel both ways. On our way back to Izmir airport, at around 8.50, I realized that i had grossly mistaken our flight time: 10 AM instead of 11 AM. Could not believe how I'd made such a STUPID mistake. I told the driver who confirmed that yes, we should've been at the airport about an hour ago, since that's about how long the drive is. No problem, he said, he'll drive faster. We arrived at Izmir around 9.30, thanked him profusely and off we went. Long security line, finally at check-in, then another line. We'll never make it! Suddenly the driver appears out of nowhere to see how we are faring -- he pleads our case to personnel and manages to bump us up for an immediate check-in so that we could receive our boarding passes and check in our bags. If it hadn't been for him, we would not have made our flights (we boarded during Last Call!), which would have resulted in headaches, delays, missed transfers, rebooking, etc, for us.

It's hard to describe exactly how thoughtful and generous his actions were -- you don't often find people who'll go out of their way like this for you (he had to find parking and stand on the long security line just to reach us!) The thought that someone did is pretty incredible and it chokes me up just to think about it. So thank you so very, very much from the bottom of my (stupid!) little heart! Teşekkür ederim, Hotel Kalehan!!

Room Tip: Room 207 is a corner room with two windows; large and spacious, plenty of room for luggage.

The rooms were pleasant, although the bathrooms were a bit small. The hotel had a lot of pleasant areas to sit and read or just drink a tea. The pool was pleasant and the garden area is also very nice. The restaurant was great and the hosts were very nice.

I have stayed in this Hotel 4 times for the last couple of years. It is not only the location which is very close to Ancient city of Ephesus and one of the cutest and nicest village in Turkey Şirince, but also the hotel itself is amazing.
You feel staying at home and people who work there are very friendly.
You could read your book by the pool and enjoying the breeze while watching the little turtles moving around you. You could also wake up by the sound of rooster.
Breakfast and main course foods are fantastic. Very fresh and all from the farmers market and of course seasonal.

Room Tip: B bloktaki odalar diğerine göre daha sessiz.

We have just checked out of this hotel today, having stayed 2 nights.
The rooms, whilst old, were more than adequate for our stay. If needing more room to spread out, there are several pleasant sitting areas within the hotel complex.
The pool area was very nice and kept very clean.
We enjoyed the buffet breakfast as well, lots to choose from.
The highlight though were the friendly owners, who were always pleasant and helpful.
Selcuk is a beautiful town. Very happy we came to visit.

Although the staff is very nice, this hotel borders on terrible. The room that my wife and I stayed in was barely large enough for a bed. The bathroom provided nowhere to place toilet articles except for the floor and the shower measured approximately 2.5 feet (76 cm) square, with a flimsy shower curtain which allowed the floor to flood.

Dear our valued Guest,

Thank you very much for your reviews of our hotel. As you stayed in a room with your saying "small shower" we should mention that all the showers size are as same as the others. If you could let us know this issue we would be glad to provide another room to make you happier while stay. We hope to see you next time and present you different conditions in our hotel.

Best regards,
Hakan Ozdemirci
