Put on your list of must do activities in Turkey. Was a hot busy town but close to Kusadasi so easy morning or afternoon activity

“Most monuments are in museums...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

Yes its an amazing site - huge and the library is very impressive and I would say the highlight of the site. We also purchased the audio tour for the site - don't waste your money - there was less information on that then if you read the boards!

There are many tour guides waiting at the gate if you would like one - sorry I didnt check the price. The only toilets on the entire site is at the main entrance - there are two entrances we came in from the southern or entrance at the bottom of the hill where the dolmus (public mini vans) drop you. Toilets are free there but 1TL at the other entrance.

The ampitheatre is well presevered. There are cats everywhere. It's crazy crazy hot in summer and the only place to busy drinks are at either entrances and they are inflated 300-400%.

So I strongly suggest you pack an umbrella and water for this day. Also you need sneakers or shoes with grip - flats, sandles, wedges and HEEL are not appropriate here.

Listening to the audio tour it was disappointing to see so many parts of the site and hear the audio guide say thats in the museum either locally or it seemed many pieces are in Austria too.

There is a street that you can walk through with old houses in a typical neighbourhood - unfortunately you have to pay extra for that I think 15TL which was annoying after paying so much for your entry but this seems to be a common thing at Turkish museums and archeological sites.

“History Up Close and Personal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

Bring a toga and a chariot. Being able to tread upon the same marble as Cleopatra walked and speak from the stage where Paul preached, make the Ephesus experience. Unlike other Roman archeological sites, Ephesus is free of commercial ventures and vandalism. The rawness, accessibility, fewer crowds made my visit to Ephesus more enjoyable than my visit to the Parthenon and Coliseum.

If you are a Christian or history buff, visiting is a must-do. If not, experiencing Ephesus will make you a born-again historian.

If you cruiseship takes you to the port at Kusadasi , Turkey........ you should take a tour and see this magnificent site (must like ancient history).......a look of tourism do not visit the Terra houses which is a separate entrance fee once inside the cite.....this should be must....look at the beautiful floor mosaics and wall murals that have been preserved .......many, many archeological sites to see......this is still a work in process.......when you are there just think that the city was a sea port city!

“mesmerizing”

This will captivate those who are keen on culture, history and have a great imagination. I enjoyed the whole experience and had a feel of what ancient life may have been like. If you go with a tour, please bring your childrens ID as the entry people will not always accept child ticket if they think the child looks older.
