“Lovely small hotel”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

I chose this hotel for our visit to Ephesus/Selcuk because of tripadvisor reviews, and was not led astray. This small, family-run hotel is charming and fun. The hotel is immaculately clean (spotless bathroom) and nicely decorated. Breakfasts on the rooftop terrace overlooking the town and old castle/fortress were a bonus, especially as the breakfasts varied slightly each day. The four-course dinner (for extra) was very nice as well. And there is nothing better than drinking tea and playing tavla in the garden area. This place has a real b&b feel and is perfect for someone who wants charm over a box-hotel feeling.

From a practical point of view, the hotel is just a few blocks from the center of town, the mini bus station, and other transportation routes. We were able to arrange to be picked up at the airport for a fee - not cheap, but worth it as our flight arrived late. The owners were extremely helpful and answered our questions patiently.

One member of our group mentioned that their bed ans pillows were very firm, so keep this in mind of you're a picky sleeper. But all in all, a wonderful place to stay that I'd recommend!

My husband and I stayed at Nazar for two nights. Nazar is clean, well-run, and a terrific value (31 euros). Our room was very small--just enough room for a bed and corner closet--but the rooftop terrace and swimming pool area are very pleasant places to spend time. Though it was still a bit too chilly to use the pool when we visited (May), it's kept very clean and I imagine would be a major draw in the summer months. Location is a 5-7 minute walk from the main square, with plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from. They offer free transit to the bus station and Ephesus.

This is my third stay at the Nazar and I hope it won't be the last. The hosts, Osman and Asim (who are brothers-in-law) and Murat are very helpful. They arranged for transportation for our group of eight to the Izmir airport which saved us a half day of travel at least. The breakfast on the upper terrace is delightful as are optional evening meals also served there. We had two doubles and a quad. The quad was like a suite with two twins in each room, sharing a bathroom, overlooking the courtyard. Very nice! The Nazar is a great value and a very fun place to stay. There is even a swimming pool, for those who enjoy cooling off after tromping through Ephesus!

Room Tip: The street can be a bit noisy at night (although it didn't bother us much).

We stayed here for three nights with our three boys (ages 8, 4 and 4) and absolutely loved it. Our room was large, comfortable and immaculate. We have been travelling for 10 months and the linens and pillows at Hotel Nazar are some of the best we've seen. The bathroom was excellent, with a fully enclosed shower (as opposed to the 'wet' bathroom design that is common in this price range) and tons of hot water.
The courtyard is very pleasant and the pool is super clean. Even though the temperature in Selcuk was cool, about 23 degrees, we still enjoyed a daily swim. The hotel does have a small dog, Alice, who lives in the courtyard. She is very quiet and friendly and our boys loved cuddling her.
The breakfast was good and plentiful and included bread, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheeses, yogurt, olives, butter, jam, honey, coffee and tea and is served up on the terrace.
The location is also very good, being about 250 metres from the main tourist areas in town.
The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I can highly recommend this hotel without any hesitation.

Just spent 3 nights here, so friendly & nothing to much trouble, booked free bus to Ephesus for us, & bus & ferry tickets to Samos, at no commission. Clean redecorated rooms, & shower rooms, easy walk into town. Would certainly recommend it.

For the price, you can not beat the location, friendly staff, and clean rooms. The owners were very accomodating, and the rooms have nice spacious showers w/ hot water that are hard to find in other value hotels. With breakfast included, you can enjoy spectacular views, like the castle, from the terrace while enjoying coffee and tea.

I love staying in places like Hotel Nazar. The owner, Osman, obviously takes great care in his 13 room pension. It is reflected in the details like the swimming pool, the lobby, the breakfast, and the obvious delight he has in his establishment.

However I only can give it four stars instead of five stars because of my room. I did not have a reservation before hand and accepted the first room I was shown. I violated the rule of thumb of any traveler - always ask to see several rooms before accepting one. The room (room 205) was basic but fine (see pictures). It was small and had a bed, nightstand, and clothes cabinet plus a modern bathroom. It faced the street and there was quite a bit of street chatter during the day.

I noticed other rooms during my stay that were quite a bit larger and seemed much nicer. So I would highly recommend this hotel if you can get the right room.
