“Small Oasis near Ephesus”
Reviewed 20 September 2012

We spent 3 nights in a Standart Double bed room with A/C. Breakfast is included and sufficient, it is served on the roof -top terrace that boasts great views all around. We also had dinner one night on the roof-top terrace and they very kindly made me a special dish "bamia" which means okra, instead of the meal of the day. The 4-course meal was very tasty and filling, not to mention very inexpensive at 8TL per person! The hotel offers a free shuttle to the Ephesus site, courtesy of a local carpet-shop owner Lily. For the way back we chose to walk back via the Dr Sabri Yayla Blv, which is a beautiful tree line road with a wide sidewalk. We also used the pool a couple of times, which was a nice at the end of the day. Be aware that it isn't heated and since it is in the shade in the afternoon it is not the warmest, but nonetheless a tranquil place to rest after a long day of sightseeing. We booked a day trip to Hierapolis and Pamukkale (3 hours drive each way), which included the minibus, a tour guide, buffet lunch and access to the site for 45Euro per person. Fairly good deal overall for a very interesting place worth the visit.

My wife and I were in the area to visit the Ephesus (Efes) ruins this summer and we are very happy about our stay at Hotel Nazar, where we stayed two nights. We would have stayed there the three nights we were in the area but the hotel was full the first night (it was our fault for we tried to book by email from Istanbul too close to our arrival, in July!). But Osman and Asım, who run the hotel, were incredibly kind and found us another place to stay down the street (all this by email, the day before our arrival), so that when we arrived we had a place to stay. Not only that, but when we arrived they let us use the pool and relax even though we weren't hotel guests. We felt so welcome that we stayed there for dinner (on the roof!) the first night. It was great. Osman also gave us tons of information about the ruins and thanks to him we hooked with a great guide. Needless to say, as soon as a room opened up the next night we moved there. We will never forget how well we were received and treated and how much we enjoyed our stay. The AC unit in our room was the best we found in Turkey.
By the way, if you're coming from Istanbul, forget the bus and fly, since it costs the same. We flew Atlasjet from Istanbul to Izmir, which has a FREE SHUTTLE from Izmir to Selçuk. It is not obvious where the shuttle is once you get to Izmir, though (no signs, nothing). It's in an unmarked parking lot outside this modern airport (cross the street and go left, not right). Ask around. The shuttle leaves about half an hour after each flight's arrival. You can also catch the free shuttle in Selçuk to get back to the airport about 2 1/2 hours before each flight. Our return flight was at about 7am and we got on the shuttle before 5am. We were skeptical that this would actually happen but it worked! (Osman had made some calls to check on this beforehand and to put us at ease about the fact that this service was for real, another example of how well we were treated at Hotel Nazar.)

Room Tip: The rooms are on the small side, but they are fine. The AC units were very new and worked great. I c...

We stayed here just one night to enable us to have an early start at Ephesus. After travelling by car from Gumusluk we found the Nazar refreshing and charming. The owner was very friendly and accommodating as we hadn't taken passports but waived them. The pool area is lovely, you wouldn't know you were in a town. The rooms and bathrooms were basic but very clean and comfortable. There is a roof terrace where you can book an evening meal and breakfast with fantastic views of the castle and the local storks nests! Selkuk is worth a visit, traditional Turkish town.

We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for 3 nights in May. Without exception, it exceeded our expectations. Great communication via email when making our reservations, free pick up from the bus station and a personal greeting by Osman (the owner) and his nephew upon arrival. The room was large, clean and quiet. Wonderful pool area and common area in lobby to meet up with other hotel guests. Breakfast is served on a rooftop terrace and if you wish you can enjoy a home cooked evening meal (at a reasonable cost) as well. I would definetly recommend having a meal at Hotel Nazar great value and very tastey. Our favourite was the mousaka!
Osman went out of his way to ensure our stay was pleasureable. It is located within easy walking distance to the train station, bus station and town. We were made to feel like we were part of the family. We will be back Insallah!

Osman and Asim gives you a warm welcome and makes you feel like a welcome guest in their home. This is a very nice family-runned hotel with good facilities, basic rooms (but with a/c), nice pool and pleasant garden. Located very near Ephessos and close to the coast - we highly recommends a daytrip to the nearby nationalpark which is beautiful and with great beaches (possible also to rent sunbeds and there are small restaurant).
This hotel is a good place for couples and families. We were a family with two teenage daughters and everybody were happy here.
Don't miss the dinner which is a home-cooked 3-course set meal served at the roof terrace by the family at a bargain 20TL. Delicious.
We warmly recommend this hotel.

This hotel located ~ 300 meters from main bus station, quite convenience for ppls if taking coach from istanbul or pakkmukale.

Staffs are very nice there, and they're very kind on offering help. Given that room rate is not high (~35 euro), I'd say it's priceworth.

Definitely I will stay there again in future.

1 additional point, pls don't mix up Selcuk Nazar hotel with another one, as when I was staying there, I met 4 korean girls who came with reservation (Unfortunately, their booking is actually for another Nazar hotel in other city)

My wife and I stayed two nights at Hotel Nazar while visiting Selcuk. All of the standard double rooms were spoken for when we made our booking, so we paid a few extra Euros for the upgraded double room and it was very nice. From reading some of the previous reviews, it sounds like people found the standard rooms a tad small, but were delighted to find a spacious and very clean room upon arrival. Also, the bathroom was probably the nicest one out of the seven hotel rooms we stayed in during our three weeks in Turkey. Osman and Asim are incredibly helpful and friendly, and the hotel offers a free shuttle up to Ephesus (the driver, Lily, will probably invite you to visit her store after you tour the ruins - it's worth stopping in, she is very kind and has some nice, reasonably-priced textiles). The pool is a nice bonus, especially if you are travelling in the summer and want a place to cool down in the afternoons. Most importantly, don't miss out on the wonderful dinner they serve on the terrace. My wife and I have a rule about never eating at the same place twice when we are travelling, but we broke it to have a second dinner at Hotel Nazar because the food was delicious and it was an outstanding deal. Soup to start, then salad, mezzes and bread, a main course (different each day) and dessert all for only 20 TL each. A spread of this quality and quantity would easily run you 30+ TL each at a local restaurant. If you're headed to Selcuk for a night or two and want a clean, comfortable place to stay that feels like home - Hotel Nazar is it!

Room Tip: Luxury room was excellent, and only 10 extra Euros.
