“great last stop in turkey.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

we drove here from dalyan, stopping in at the ruins of didyma and miletus along the way. it was 38* so we passed on the climb up to priene, can't do it all. we were quite pleased to drive this way rather than through aydin, so that we saw the ruins along the way to selcuk rather than driving down the next day. the hotel is situated in a safe, local neighborhood. I found it interesting to watch the goings on from our shallow balcony window. our room overlooked the lovely courtyard and pool, which I took advantage of on our second day. very clean and a perfect temperature. there were difficulties with the a.c. due to the heat and it was dealt with quickly. very friendly family. breakfast was served to us on top of the terrace. an easy walk into town for dinner, passing storks in their nest on ruins in the town square. after dinner we walked up to the st. john basilica ruins and took in the view of selcuk's castle. the isa bey cami was open and we were welcomed in. the following day we went to Ephesus after breakfast, a 5 minute drive from the hotel, so were there by 9:30. an amazing place. very hot so after we were finished we drove up to the tiny mountaintop village of sirince. had a cold beer at one spot and lunch at another. down we came to our hotel to pack up for our departure the next day. a very quiet, clean and peaceful stay. I highly recommend this hotel!

My wife, daughter and I recently returned from a trip to Turkey in which we stayed at Nazar Hotel. I challenge anyone to find a better value and/or experience.

Ilker and Selma treat their guests in exactly the way anyone would wish to be treated - with respect, kindness, consideration and with an eye toward giving the best possible experience and comfort for your money. The hotel is clean, comfortable, quiet, cute and in a location that we had absolutely no qualms about staying in. Breakfast was always excellent, as were the dinners that we ate there. Selma spoke to our daughter in fluent French, to us in English, and went out her way help us learn enough Turkish to get by. Both owners are well respected tour guides in their own right, and they went out of their way to give us tips and connections for our travels to Istanbul and elsewhere. Ilker went out of his way to drive us to the airport in Izmir for a ridiculously early morning flight. Where in the U.S. or most of the world could you possibly get service like that?

I am at a loss to explain the negative reviews that have been written about this place except to say that these are probably the same sort of people who frankly make everyone else's lives miserable with their endless criticisms and absurd demands. Heck, if you want everything to be exactly as it is at home, then stay home!

We stayed in far more expensive and famous places during the rest of our stay in Turkey. Each time, one of us would comment that "Sheesh, I preferred the Nazar Hotel."

This hotel was a jewel in our visit to Turkey. I have stayed in larger, tourist hotels in Kusadasi, Antalya, Neveshir, Istanbul, Konya, and Izmir, but this is my favorite hotel in Turkey by far. We felt we got a bit of real Turkish hospitality in a small bed and breakfast type establishment. The owner is very fluent in English and helpful with tour information. He did not try to force any particular tours on us or get us into a carpet shop. This is so common and such a pain! He helped us get to where we wanted to go and gave us advice. Ilker would have picked us up from the train but it was close and we just walked.
The hotel is clean, very well maintained and attractive. The decor is actually much better than some of the website pictures make it look (sorry, Ilker). I was afraid the rooms might be a bit barren but not so. There is a roof top dining room and we got to enjoy a dinner and a breakfast there. The dinner was by reservation for guests and a reasonable price for an authentic Turkish dinner personally served. They handmade Turkish ravioli for us. The breakfast was a fresh and tasty Turkish breakfast. It was not a large as a tourist hotel buffet breakfast but really better as it was fresh. Good cheeses, olives, yogurt, bread, more. Do not expect an American breakfast. This is Turkey, folks. And a way better breakfast than hotels in the US!!!
We loved having breakfast while watching storks fly by with the castle in the background- pretty incredible.
One person commented that they were concerned about the neighborhood. It is fine. But this is not Kansas and they do not use the same zoning that we do so businesses and homes are mixed. So, yes, you may see a tractor parked on the sidewalk down the street. Don't worry. Overall, Turkey is very safe anyway.
The hotel is close enough to walk to the Ephesus site but a taxi was only 15TL. ($7.50) for 3 of us. We took a minibus back (even cheaper). We walk a lot but we were tired after touring the Ephesus. The St John basilica is so close that you just walk to it. And it is worth seeing.
The owner drove us to Kusadasi to catch the ferry to Samos, but there are also shuttles from the otogar which is not far itself.
There is a nice pool but that is not we did too many other things.
Beds: Turkish people do not think soft, squishy beds are high quality. So these are not pillow tops. We were quite comfortable, but if you need squishy, these are not.
Did I tell you how helpful Ilker is? Oh, I did. Well, just wanted to make my point.

My wife and I stayed, with our 4 yr old. It was so nice to be picked up at the train station (for free). We all enjoyed dinner on the roof. Breakfasts were good. Such helpful information. Did a tour of Ephesus with 'No Frills', which was great.
We enjoyed the pool.
We messed up trying to mail a package home (got to the post office just after it closed). So Ilker, the owner, mailed it for us after we left. Had a great stay!

We (family of 4, children in their 20s) thought this was an excellent and comfortable place to stay. Ilker and his wife and mother-in-law were extremely gracious. The neighborhood felt safe and real, kids play ball in the street, old men hanging out at sidewalk cafes. Selcuk looks small but interesting, a quiet place to be. Close to Ephesus and other archeological locations. Lovely view of the castle from the hotel's rooftop terrace dining area. Absolutely delicious meals. The rooms were bright, colorful, absolutely clean and comfortable. Loved the cheery decor throughout, and we loved the patchwork kilims so much that Ilker helped us get one specially made and delivered to our Istanbul hotel, very affordably. He made other transportation arrangements for us at no charge and they were absolutely perfect and smooth. He was a delight to communicate with before and after our stay by email, and of course in person. We loved the pool and plantings around it. Car could be parked just outside the hotel for free. Really, everything was absolutely perfect. We'd return here any time!

The Nazar Hotel was perfect for us, family with two young kids, stayed one night to see Ephesus. We stopped at tourist info in town to get directions, they phoned the hotel and Ilker the manager arrived in 5 mins to pick us up. Very friendly host, excellent English. Hotel was in quiet street but very close to shops and cafes. Looked recently renovated, decorated with ethnic rugs and ornaments. Room was clean and bright. Pool and courtyard were lovely and the rooftop restaurant was comfortable and pleasant. Was our first night in Turkey, we had the set menu dinner and were totally impressed and very full! Breakfast was superb, our kids were delighted. No complaints at all. Small improvement might be a kettle in the room.

I think this hotel is way overpriced for location and area. Its a small family run place and the owner and his mother are certainly kind and helpful, From my stays and observations on trip advisor, I am sensing that when it is a small place, people tend to write better reviews because it feels like a personal insult to write something negative. Even though I appreciated the owner/family, I'm going to tell you how it is. Selcuk downtown is small. This hotel is further out by several blocks than most places and is in a ghetto type area. I stayed here due to the pool, and thought it may have a touch of social vibe. Its extremely quiet and I saw no one at pool entire stay. Pool is not particularly appealing either. It is surrounded by concrete and ghetto One must pay extra to get a pool towel. .

The entry and lobby are not particularly attractive. The stairway and hallways are very charming. The rooms were very simple, but had brightly painted cheerful walls and were clean. I was unable to get wifi in my room the entire stay. I could only get wifi in the lobby.j Breakfast was fine. The rooftop has a view of that castle, but other than that, is not an appealing place to be.

There are many darling pensions in this town at half the price and in much better locations. Its not the $, its the principle. I felt taken advantage of for being a tourist and booking/committing in advance prior to seeing. I would recommend staying elsewhere.
