“pleasant surprises at every turn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

This hotel is clean and bright, but the staff is what makes it a total delight. We stayed three days, and every single day someone went out of their way to do something wonderful. Like staying with cousins who are happy to do favors, give you ideas, and simply make you feel at home.

The owner Ilker and his wife are incredibly friendly and accommodating. They picked us up from the train station, offered to take us to the beach, took care of our laundry and Ilker even took me to his personal Turkish barber for an amazing Turkish shaving experience (so good it needs its own review!). Ilker is very fluent in English. The rooms are clean and comfortable with AC. There is a lovely pool and sundeck. Breakfast is served on their rooftop terrace with great views and food. All in all, a perfect stay that was a highlight of our Turkey trip.

My wife, Lynne, and I came from Hawaii and usually look for the best hotel deals, such as stay for 2 nights and get 1 free! So we would end up with deals of staying 3 nights but paying only for 2 with some hotels.

But hotel owner/manager, ILKER SEN, did such an outstanding job in helping us way beyond the call of duty, that we GLADLY, VOLUNTARILY, AND EAGERLY paid him for 3 nights even though we stayed for only 2 nights!!! That's 50% more than we needed to pay!!! How's that for THE BEST ENDORSEMENT of the integrity, the incredible service, the total appreciation and the total exceeding of our expectations by a man we consider to be the VERY BEST HOTEL OWNER/MANAGER IN TURKEY!!!

Where else have you ever heard of customers paying for 3 nights after only staying for 2, VOLUNTARILY AND GLADLY!!!? NEVER ANYWHERE! BUT HERE!!!

Ilker was instrumental in getting our delayed luggage that would be coming in to Istanbul a couple days after we got there, but we had already left to go to Ilker's Hotel Nazar in Selcuk. He kept calling 2 airports and persisted amidst frustrating non-responses or wrong info to try to get our luggage before we left, and when they said they would deliver it on the morning we were leaving, he went there that night (about 40 minutes away) to make sure we had it before an early morning departure!

You see, if we missed our luggage at his place, we might have not received our luggage for the rest of our trip which would have been 26 nights in Turkey without luggage!!! How horrible would that be for a dream trip we kept planning, researching, and preparing for, for over a year?!

Ilker told us that if the luggage did not come in, that he would personally drive and deliver our luggage to us at the next place we stayed which was near Fethiye, about 285 kilometers away or 177 miles, one-way, HELLO!!! That driving would take about 9-10 hours round-trip for Ilker, yet he said he would personally bring our luggage to us because he knew how important having it would be for our trip to be enjoyed instead of being a meltdown of inconvenience and trip time used to get foreign clothes, toiletries, shoes, underwear, swimsuits, etc, etc.!!! All that with the super-expensive cost of gas in Turkey! WOW!!! ILKER IS THE MAN!!! He's the BEST MAN when it comes to having someone fight for you in your corner when you are in Turkey and do not speak Turkish! What foreign visitor does speak Turkish?

Do you know any other hotel owner who would do that personally for you? We don't!!!

So ILKER SEN is a GODSEND to foreign travelers who need someone to fight for them, persist for them, and personally take care of them in adverse circumstances in a foreign country where we had great difficulty contacting and communicating with Turkish workers who gave us wrong information at the airports in diligently trying to get our luggage!

We both completely and unreservedly totally recommend that you stay with Ilker at Hotel Nazar as the most well-deserved NUMBER 1 HOTEL IN SELCUK because of the NUMBER 1 HOTEL OWNER IN TURKEY, ILKER SEN!!!

Ilker, we loved staying with you! We loved and appreciated all that you went through to help us at personal cost to you, and your willingness for even greater costly personal time and monetary cost to want to drive our luggage to us across the country so we would have a good trip! We love you and send our greatest aloha and gratitude to you from Hawaii!

Only YOU could have someone who STAYED 2 NIGHTS AND GLADLY PAID YOU FOR 3!!! NO OTHER HOTEL OWNER OR HOTEL HAS EVER BEEN PAID THAT!!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!!

Much aloha to you and may God bless you and your family, dear Ilker,
Pastor Warren & Lynne Nakano

Room Tip: Get the best room overlooking the pool and garden! Very refreshing!!! Ilker will also help you get t...

We have just travelled through turkey with our 5 and 7 year old and stayed at Nazar hotel while in selcuk, we had a family room which was 2 joining rooms with 2 twin beds in each. The photos on the website make the rooms look a bit plain but actually the are lovely and light and nicely decorated. The pool is great and there is room to sit down by the pool at a table or up on the rooftop terrace, lovely to see the castle up above. The family are just lovely and we're great with the kids. We had the home cooked 3 or more course meal there which was fantastic and lovely breakfasts. We had parking outside and could walk into town for shopping and restaurants and easy drive to Ephesus and kusadasi. Thankyou so much guys for the lovely stay I would definitely come back!

We are so happy that Tripadvisor steered us to this hotel. It is a great deal. I would book directly with Ilker for the best price. Hotel Nazar was clean and conveniently located in Selcuk, within walking distance of St. John's Basilica. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We asked for a quiet room, and we got a great quiet room overlooking the pool. However, be aware that nowhere are you going to escape the sound of prayer calls or Ramadan drummers (if you go during Ramadan).

Ilker also went above and beyond by booking us for a wonderful balloon tour in Cappadocia and with a tour guide in Istanbul. He has worked previously as a travel agent so he was able to get us the best prices!

Also, his recommended place for Turkish delights was the best! Delicious double locum! Unfortunately we were unable to get to his recommended Baklava, but I am sure it would have been absolutely delicious.

I would not hesitate at all booking this place. Now, to be fair, be aware that you are not going to get a fancy Ritz Carlton like experience. If that is what you are expecting, this is not the place for you. But if you want a clean, comfortable place with excellent service, this is for you!

Room Tip: The room overlooking the hotel was quiet.

we drove here from dalyan, stopping in at the ruins of didyma and miletus along the way. it was 38* so we passed on the climb up to priene, can't do it all. we were quite pleased to drive this way rather than through aydin, so that we saw the ruins along the way to selcuk rather than driving down the next day. the hotel is situated in a safe, local neighborhood. I found it interesting to watch the goings on from our shallow balcony window. our room overlooked the lovely courtyard and pool, which I took advantage of on our second day. very clean and a perfect temperature. there were difficulties with the a.c. due to the heat and it was dealt with quickly. very friendly family. breakfast was served to us on top of the terrace. an easy walk into town for dinner, passing storks in their nest on ruins in the town square. after dinner we walked up to the st. john basilica ruins and took in the view of selcuk's castle. the isa bey cami was open and we were welcomed in. the following day we went to Ephesus after breakfast, a 5 minute drive from the hotel, so were there by 9:30. an amazing place. very hot so after we were finished we drove up to the tiny mountaintop village of sirince. had a cold beer at one spot and lunch at another. down we came to our hotel to pack up for our departure the next day. a very quiet, clean and peaceful stay. I highly recommend this hotel!

My wife, daughter and I recently returned from a trip to Turkey in which we stayed at Nazar Hotel. I challenge anyone to find a better value and/or experience.

Ilker and Selma treat their guests in exactly the way anyone would wish to be treated - with respect, kindness, consideration and with an eye toward giving the best possible experience and comfort for your money. The hotel is clean, comfortable, quiet, cute and in a location that we had absolutely no qualms about staying in. Breakfast was always excellent, as were the dinners that we ate there. Selma spoke to our daughter in fluent French, to us in English, and went out her way help us learn enough Turkish to get by. Both owners are well respected tour guides in their own right, and they went out of their way to give us tips and connections for our travels to Istanbul and elsewhere. Ilker went out of his way to drive us to the airport in Izmir for a ridiculously early morning flight. Where in the U.S. or most of the world could you possibly get service like that?

I am at a loss to explain the negative reviews that have been written about this place except to say that these are probably the same sort of people who frankly make everyone else's lives miserable with their endless criticisms and absurd demands. Heck, if you want everything to be exactly as it is at home, then stay home!

We stayed in far more expensive and famous places during the rest of our stay in Turkey. Each time, one of us would comment that "Sheesh, I preferred the Nazar Hotel."
