We loved our three day stay at Rilican. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast on the terrace was a delicious buffet. The staff were helpful and friendly. The real highlight however was relaxing, watching the sun go down from the roof terrace with a bottle of red wine. A number of reviews mention an uphill walk to this hotel as a downside. The walk is a gentle slope of no more that 5 - 6 minutes and the slight incline allows for those amazing views over the town to the castle. Excellent value for money and highly recommeded.

My partner and I stayed here together with his mother for two nights. We live in Istanbul and were visiting Ephesus and the surrounding area. This is really a lovely place with wonderful owners, a stunning view and great homey atmosphere. The rooms are very clean and well air conditioned and the hotel is a convenient walk from the center of town (although it is on a hill, and is not easily accesible for disabled travellers). We felt very welcome and well taken care of and would definitely stay here again!

I am actually surprised to see the recent negative reviews on trip advisor, especially about the breakfast, which is an excellent traditional Turkish breakfast with fresh vegetables and olives from the owner's own garden. What more could you want? :) The shower is not enclosed, as other reviewers have mentioned, but this is really standard for Turkish bathrooms. If you are looking for a slice of real Turkey and Turkish hospitality, not just a slick 5 star hotel experience interchangeable with any other, this is a wonderful hidden gem.

Teşekkür ederim Rilican team! :)

It has a lot going for it - fantastic view of Selcuk, absolutely lovely owners who were always on hand to help with anything and a nice, quiet location just out of town and near enough to the train station.

But...it was a very basic room in dire need of updating, the bed was uncomfortable, the shower was poor (although this was definitely not unique during our stay in Turkey) and the breakfast was pretty limited.

Saying all of that, for those unfussy about basic accommodation (as both myself and my girlfriend are) this place is fine for spending a night before or after seeing the wonderful Ephesus.

Just a word of warning for those with heavy and/or wheely bags - there is a small steep hill up to the hotel so be prepared for that!

This is a low cost budget hotel. If you are not after comfort, then this might be a choice. Having stayed there once, next time, I'd rather pay an additional 20 Euro for a much better hotel. This place is essentially a hostel. The bathrooms don't have shower doors. After each shower, it became wet and slippery everywhere.
The rooms were not serviced or cleaned everyday. The extra blanket in the armoire felt damp. My dad's room was very dim as the broken bulbs were not replaced. Breakfast was the same everyday and very basic. However, the view from the terrace was terrific, and the wifi signal was surprisingly strong compared to the other places we stayed at in Turkey.
Also note that the owner would ask for payment immediately after check-in.

I stayed as a solo traveller at the Rilican Hotel in May 2012. I was travelling on a shoestring budget and decided to stay at the Rilican because it was nearly the same price as hostels but offered a private bathroom + breakfast. The location is very convenient, the view from the terrace where you have breakfast is amazing. The place has a very friendly and helpful owner who gave me a lift to the bus station as I was leaving the place. I stayed in the twin room below the reception and the only negative that it was a little bit noisy as I usually went to bed early (I'm exciting like that!). Also, it would be great if there were a fridge in the room because if you buy anything from the local market you would definitely need it. I would stay there again. And the fresh coffee is something else...really lovely. And the omelettes with chilli were delicious. For just a little bit more than a dorm bed, you could have your own room here. Well worth the money.

We stayed for 3 nights. Room was small,no fridge or coffee and tea facilities. This is a low cost budget hotel.Breakfast was terrible. The only thing going for this hotel is the view of the castle and town of Secuk. Only a short walk to the town.We would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Dont stay here,ok for backpakers

We spent 2 nights at the Rilican to view Ephesus. We booked the Rilican based on Tripadvisor ratings and we think those ratings are misleading. If you are looking for a low cost place and comfort is not important then consider the Rilican. It was well below the level of all of our other accommodation in Turkey. But it was also less expensive. The room was small and the furnishings are very basic. The bed and especially the pillows were not comfortable. Our bathroom was very substandard, almost what I would expect in a prison cell (see our photo). The AC worked well.
Having said the above, the family running the Rilican are among the nicest we met in Turkey.

My wife and I thoroughly discussed how to rate this hotel because we like and respect the family. In the end we decided to describe it fairly and let readers use a price-to-comfort ratio to determine whether they want to stay there.
