“Excellent, comfortable and spotless hotel on the road to Ephesus.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2011

This is the best place we stayed at during our 3 weeks in Turkey. I really can't say enough good things about the hotel or the brothers who run it. We booked for one night and decided to spend an extra night there even though it meant being charged for our reservation in Izmir.
We had a twin room on the 3rd floor, with a view of the mosque and the road to Ephesus from our 2(!!) balconies. The room was small but spotless, the beds comfortable with really nice and very clean linens. I think this is the only place I've stayed in ages where even the blankets smelled fresh. The bathroom was also very clean and though we didn't have hot water the first night, it was fixed straight away when we asked about it in the morning.
The lobby is very comfortable, like a living room and they have English tv channels via sattelite in the lobby. The wifi was strong in both the room and lobby, good enough to Skype with my family on Xmas.
When we left, the owner even volunteered to drive us to the train station!
Note: they did tend to run out of breakfast by about 9, so get there early.

We enjoyed staying here. It was a clean, comfortable room and had a tidy looking bathroom. Unfortunatley, along with many of our tour mates, our shower would not actually take water down the plughole and so we were inevitably flooded - even our tour leaders was flooded, he had to change rooms it was that bad. Also the rooms were lacking in soundproofing, I was clearly able to hear our neighbours next door in their bathroom and as my stomach started doing pyrotechnics I didn't envy them either. This lack of soundproofing also proved inconvenient when we decided to enjoy the food and drink offered on the rooftop - the view and sunset were breathtaking and the food was beautiful, we enjoyed it immensly. Unfortunatley after many drinks and shisha we got a little too rowdy and had to be asked to quiten down as people on the floor below had complained. While we were happy to quiten it was obvious through this, the bathroom and clearly hearing people moving past the room it wasn't the quietist place in the world. All in all though, I'd stay again. Oh and it's very close to many interesting sites, very close to Ephesus and the local sites - great if you're like me and enjoy walking to places.

The owner of the hotel is very friendly and helpful. Others, including his brother, not as much. Rather than spending their entire days watching TV, the brothers running the hotel could use their time more effectively by making minor repairs that would improve things greatly. Friendliness is not a substitute for effort. There were many small things in our room that could use the attention, such as unscrewed hooks, curtains falling off the rails, toilet paper dispenser broken off the wall, and towel rack falling off the wall. The breakfast on the roof top patio (which had a great view) is mediocre. Powdered juice and Nescafe coffee in a hotel of this price is unacceptable, and the only fruit offered was watermelon. There is an amazing, super cheap, farmers market in town two days a week, so the brothers could easily spend a few lira to provide a more substantial breakfast food. Also, it is essential for guests to use earplugs as the hotel is right next to a mosque and a busy road. Although the windows are double-paned, the noise travels in through the un-insulated frame. Hotel is in a convenient location to get to the Ephesus ruins and the beach, especially if you have a car. Overall, a very mediocre hotel.

Room Tip: Choose rooms away from the next door mosque and wear earplugs.

i shared a double room with another girl and we had trouble figuring out where to put our luggage, the room was that tiny. the bathroom was the worst i experienced on my entire trip. the toilet ran/didn't flush, the shower flooded, the tilework was a mess and i just felt dirty being there.

I try to base each review on the price I have paid. So for a 2 night stay with my 2 teenage boys I paid 50 Euros per night. I chose this hotel based on many reviews. Most were correct in saying that the brothers at this hotel are extremely helpful and courteous, that is 100% correct. BUT the hotel itself is in a really shabby state. Our room was 3 single beds, a balcony door that didn't lock, A/C remote missing batteries and possibly the worst bathroom I have seen in 28 years of constant travel. A basin barely hanging from the wall, a shower that needs complete re grouting and fills up after one shower (doesn't seem to drain for 20 minutes - so by 3 showers its overflows the bathroom). The walls seem paper thin and all doors need to be slammed to engage the locks, so the noise levels are bad, not good if you are a light sleeper. All TV stations are in Turkish, not useful when wanting some down time to maybe watch some foreign TV. No reviewer mentioned that it's also next door to a mosque, which means that the call to prayer (via loudspeakers) is at sunrise, which was 4:55am for us. I find the call to pray chant quite soothing, but not at that hour. So for people that have trouble going back to sleep, this will be a problem. The much talked rooftop restaurant we didn't get to sample as the chef was sick during our stay. The breakfast was unimpressive, I had read about the excellent fruit offerings but all we saw was some watermelon. The wireless internet seemed to work on and off when it felt like it. I came to the Canberra hotel excited by so many good reviews and was extremely disappointed, it is rated 2 star, but I think it's a level below backpacker and wouldn't stay there again. There is an excellent water slide park nearby called Aqua fantasy, which is great for kids or even big adult kids. Good for a rest from Ephesus (ing) too many roman ruins. Definitely recommend a visit there!

We were not looking for anything fancy, just an affordable, good hotel. And Canberra fulfilled those requirements. We requested to have a look at the room before committing. We were shown two rooms, and chose the one we preferred. The owner was very friendly, forthcoming and helpful. We did not feel pressured into taking the room, but were left free to choose. Our room had two balconies. We could open both doors which allowed for a nice breeze. Though the room as such was not that big, it was right for us. It had a good feel to it. The restaurant was on the roof, from which one had an expansive view, over toward Ephesus (not visible), the Artemision, and St. John's Church (part of it visible). We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts up there. The location of the hotel is ideal. It is close to the bus and taxi terminal, the Tourist Information house, and the museum. Furthermore, one could easily walk to the St. John's Church and the Artemision (about a 10 minutes walk). We added another day to our vacation because we liked it so much.
