“A good hotel for the budget traveller”
Reviewed 26 May 2013

This place is nothing special. The rooms are dated but clean. The walls are paper thin,I could hear the 2 French kids playing next door load and clear. The towels were like sand paper. Despite that I recommend this hotel for the budget traveller. It is close to town, the bus station and Ephesus. The staff was very helpful. The price just can't be beat.

Room Tip: Don't expect much this hotel is for the budget traveller!

Will preface this review with this: the staff is super polite and the food is pretty good there. So, no knocks on the service.

PROS:
1. great view of the mountains and the castle at sunset
2. super close to Ephesus: we walked back from there, took about 30 min. nice room
3. food's actually pretty good
4. working elevator (tiny, but it works)

cons:
-our bed filled the entire room
-water pressure was like a squirt gun, i.e.-not much of it
-bathroom's a bit old

Room Tip: Room 401 has 2 balconies

This was a really great choice for a couple of days in Selcuk, 2 minutes walk from the bus station and right by the road you have to walk down to get to Ephesus. It was also next to a charming garden cafe with a nice little stream and ducks and stuff.

The room we had on the 4th floor was lovely with an amazing balcony view, and Seamus the guy on reception was super helpful, chilled out and friendly. Also had a nice breakfast spread on the roof terrace, the undoubted winner of the hotel, which was spacious, had futons and other nice places to sit, and a great view in the sunshine!
And it was REALLY cheap!

Great hotel, cheap price, dont really see why you'd stay anywhere else in Selcuk.

Room Tip: Ask for 4th floor with balcony!

The staff at this hotel were fantastic particularly the manager who seemed to pop up everywhere. Unusually for hotels of this grade outside of Instanbul it had a lift so no lugging suitcases up four flights of stairs - although you still need to walk up the final flight to the rooftop terrace.

The room was roomy and led out onto a nice little balcony. We slept with the door opent for airflow and felt completely safe. Beds and linen nice and clean.

The food on the terrace was nice enough but overpriced. Breakfast was basic but plentiful.

The bathroom was small to say the least the door opens hitting the basin, which seemed to be a feature of all the rooms and the shower didn't drain terribly well but there were no cleanliness problems.

Good wifi and great communal areas on the rooftop and lobby for catching up with friends.

Its location is a quick five minute stroll into the village and St John's Basilica and if you really wanted to you could probably even walk to Ephesus - although we caught a bus.

Overall I would stay again and would be happy with the quality for the price.

Room Tip: It is close to a Mosque - as are many places in Turkey but I managed to sleep through every call to...

Canberra hotel is very easy to find from the Otogar in Selcuk. It was located near to a hospital and also very easy to walk from the hotel to the town shopping area and also other attractions like Ephesus, Basilica of Saint John, Temple of Artemis and others. The moment we arrived at Otogar , we were surprised to meet the owner brother and he is very helpful to direct us. I was soon to know that this hotel was run by family and they are friendly and has done a good job keeping up the level.

The room was nice, we stayed for a night in twin room for €30 and we had good sleep during the night. Breakfast was ok, like all other traditional Turkey breakfast, even thought only few selections but good enough for a good start of the day. However, It would be great if they provide electric hot water kettle for hot beverage in the room.

One reason to love about this hotel is : location.

The hotel is just 10mnts walk from the Otobus / Otogar (bus terminal), it is also 10mnts walking from the AtlasJet drop-off ( we were using the free shuttle bus from AtlasJet from Izmir to Selcuk).

There is an outdoor tea cafe just in-front of the hotel, next to it is a mosque. Next to the mosque is a Korean resto (you might wonder why on earth a korean resto doing in Selcuk, but there it is), nearby the otogar you'll find bunch of turkish resto/cafes. I remember there is one shop selling turkish delight and baklava. Oh dear.. the baklava is good...

The owner of the hotel can help you in case you need to call a cab to go to Ephesus, he will give you advise on what route best suits you if you need to go to see other attractions. For me and my wife, the only time we go using automotive is to go to Ephesus. The rest is by walking. Yes.. the hotel is close to many attractions.

Room/Hotel ameneties are standards, a heater lamp, double bed, hot shower, and a small escalator. We choose one bed at the 3rd floor so we can have a balcony. Oh, since it is a budget hotel they dont provide the room with a bottled water nor a water boiler. You need to go to the dining area at the ground floor or call the receptionist for that.

Yet, for a budget consious traveller like me and my wife, this hotel suits us well. We shall recommend it to other budget travellers.

Room Tip: ask for the room at the 2nd or 3rd floor which has balcony

I stayed at this hotel two days ago. The breakfast was good and the location is perfect. The owners of the hotel were so friendly. I read some bad reviews about that hotel's bathrooms. But they renewed the bathrooms and I am the first guest who used the new bathroom. The room was so clean. Definitely I recommend Canberra Hotel!
