“Things you should bring with you”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2013

If you come to this hotel, there are some things you can bring along to make your stay more pleasant:

1. Several lamps. Those in the room do not give enough light to read by. The bed-lamp (a goose-neck lamp affixed to the wall) which might have been directed at a book, say, had lost whatever vigor it may once have had, and lay limp against the wall, shining a bit on the floor. Perhaps some Viag... Oh, never mind.

2. Batteries for the lamps. Of the several electrical sockets in the room only one worked. If you are woman, or grow a beard, you will not need that socket for your shaver.

3. A lock for the door. The friends we went with found that their door did not lock. The maintenance man told them no one else knew the door was unlocked , and that the secret was safe with him.

4. A lunge chair. There was one straight-back chair in the room. Otherwise nothing to sit on comfortably.

4. A spare flush toilet. The one in our room worked most of the time, but not always.

5. Soup. Though the food generally was good, the soup was obviously nothing but boiled water with much too much soup powder.

6. Scouring powder. We found our room perfectly clean. However other friends we went with had to scrub their bathtub before they could shower.

No need to bring linens and towels. When we came there indeed were not enough towels in the bathroom, but we requested more towels at the desk, and they arrived instantly.

No need to bring your own Italian restaursnt. Around the corner is a great, and not expensive Italian-style dairy restaurant, Il Pentolino.

This was a family holiday of 4 days/3 nights over Chanuka. We were looking for something cheap and chearful. We got the cheap, but not the Chearful bit!

We booked the package ( Bed, Breakfast and Supper) through an agent. We knew that there would be lots of families and activities in the Hotel and the Sister Hotel next door(Astral Nirvana).

We arrived on the Sunday afternoon and check in went OK. We were given our "Suite", which happened to be the first room on the same floor as reception ...i.e. the other side of the wall from the Managers office behind reception. The "Suite" had a bathroom ( small, clean, but with 4 tiny towels and a single glass next to the sink), the main bedroom was small (with no wardrobes, 2 simple bedside tables, bedside lamps that had fixed switches about 1meter away from the bed and no electrical sockets), there was a small kitchenette with gas stove ( didn't work), sink and cupboards, the main room had a sofa and armchair ( both of which were now open to provide a single bed and a double bed) and a baby cot wedged in the only floorspace remaining. In the crowded Main room there was also a small coffee table ( pushed to the side), a desk and chair, a tiny ( 21") LCD TV with about 10 channels on and a door leading out to a small balcony ( the door was crooked and virtually impossible to open and the view was mainly the building site next door, with a little bit of the mountains of Jordan).

The only benefit of being in the room where we were was that the we were in range of the free Wifi in the lobby. This meant that at least we had internet in the room.

Noticing that we were short of towels and blankets, I made the long walk ( 6 meters!) to reception and asked them to arrange for more of them. It took me 5 attempts and 3 hours for them to sort it out.

Supper in the evening was plentiful, but poor. Food was of a low quality and not tasty.

Breakfast in the morning was adequate. Plenty of food, salads and other things....but once again, low quality and taste.

The Hotel is opposite the front entrance to the airport , which is not a problem because there are only a few flights a day, and mainly small-ish planes. The Hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the promenade and near the market and some restaurants and shops.

Parking seemed plentiful, and I was never more than 25 meters away from the entrance of the Hotel.

Activities - Even though it was winter, my boys wanted to try out the pool...and we did. It was freezing, but clean. No Towels were available and we had to bring from our room. The boys also tried out the kids room where there was a WII, a ball pool and some basic colouring and arts and crafts activities in the morning.

In the evening there were activities for the kids ( that took place in the Hotel next door) . Mainly a film on a big screen, but on the last night there was a performance with a Magician.

During the day, we were out of the Hotel doing other things. There is not much to do at the Hotel if you just want to hang around.

Summary - Service was poor, food was plentiful- but poor, rooms were poor. I have stayed in worse places...but not many. I will definitely not be back.
