We only went to Eilat (by Egged from Jerusalem) in order to sleep over and be picked up early in am to go to Petra.
The Americana is a medium class hotel...but very worth it.Rooms were clean and room and bathroom were adequate. Breakfast was fine. We were picked up promptly for tour next am. The third day was for relaxing. We took a cab to the underwater observatory. Sure my grandchildren would have loved it. Then we just walked around Eilat...Eilat is a shopper's Paradise. With Cartier etc as well as junk. Some lovely restaurants on the seashore and a good place to relax and space.
The help was great. The wake up call was on time. We decided to tour Petra with United Eco Tours and all was on time with them...they performed as promised. Drove us to the border and drove us back. I will try to comment on Petra in a separate review.
But you must know that it is: tiring, dangerous walking, and a two mile hike down and back. The Nabatean structures are stunning. Glad I did it. Would I do it again? NO, but rememer we are senior seniors. The Jordanian guide was very good and although we got behind schedule at passport control on the Jordanian side, he was patient and explained all.More
