“All the charm of a 70s-era Motel 6.”
Reviewed 18 January 2011

We got shunted to this hotel when there were problems with our rooms at our original choice. Although the accommodations were acceptable (water was hot, linens were clean), the beds were not particularly comfortable and the actual cleaning of the room appeared cursory at best. In addition, there was a wedding going on at the time and the thin walls and doors did nothing to keep the noise down. On the plus side the wireless internet worked (although I had to unplug the fridge to plug in the computer) and there are decent restaurants uphill if you're up for a decent walk.

The rooms were dark with closed windows & curtains. They smelt with previous people's smoke that was attempted to be hidden. The fridge was boiling hot. The public toilets in the foyer were disgustingly filthy.

When we booked the hotel , it was posted as a new hotel. It is actually a very old building and had poor reconstruction.

The Mount Carmel Hotel in Haifa is a delightful example of how two realities can coexist in one single building. For the price of one night in Mount Carmel Hotel, the traveller is offered a time-travel experience; after the new reception hall, the magic lift takes you back to the early 1980’s. Make sure you learn new tricks such as how to lock your paper-thin door from inside before you go out, as once you are outside you won’t be able to do anything with your key. The furnishings and fittings reminded us of a youth hostel from the early 1980’s, it also hasn’t been cleaned since then either. Don’t upset the breakfast wench and sit where you are told, then try the dirty laundry bag flavoured dark grey scrambled eggs which was the centrepiece of the breakfast buffet. There exists a pool with a lifeguard (preoccupied with his dinner) it is recommended to avoid drowning during the lifeguards meal breaks. On the positive side you can see a beautiful sunset over Haifa by standing on the terrace, but not quite worth the high cost of staying there.

The hotel has a very nice location, in a quiet, although central area and it is surrounded by a lot of vegetation. The room I stayed in was quite large and comfortable, with king-sized bed and additional sofa, TV with many channels and phone. Some reviews I have read on other sites read a fridge in the room would have been longed for, well, mine got one, and I also got very nice sea view, although again, some reviewers read sea view was not available in the area. I am attaching a photo in this respect. It is true, the sea was not at 10 meters from the hotel, but very visible from the room and a real enchanting of eyes, especially at sunset. Staff was very helpful and friendly, breakfast was very good, the little spa was fully equipped, and overall, the hotel represents an excellent value for money. Big free of charge parking also available.

I cannot describe it even - I think it's like living in the street, even living in the street is better than this hotel.
