I happened upon the Harmony by walking into the Cinema hotel in Tel Aviv, picking up a brochure and discovering that the same Israeli hotel group (Atlas) also had a hotel in Jerusalem. I checked out the Harmony on Trip Advisor and my verdict is that the very positive reviews of this hotel on TA are on the money.
The Harmony is one of the new breed of city hotels, purpose built, very modern, funky decor, smallish room with good plumbing, no restaurant, breakfast only. For me the big difference with the Harmony is the really exceptionally warm atmosphere created by all the front of house staff whose default answer to any request thrown at them is 'yes'. They really could not have been more helpful or pleasant. This sort of culture and great service must come down from the top so very well done Ms Harmony Manager. Location is perfect, which in Jerusalem right now is extremely important because Jerusalem's roads are paralysed by the construction of a new light railway and lots of other heavy duty construction. The whole city resembles a building site so it is not that easy to get around by road. The Harmony is situated close to everything including the Old City and Western Wall (the cotel) which is within very pleasant and easy walking distance via the new open air Malmila luxury shopping Mall.
There are enough eateries and bars within walking distance so you never have to eat (or drink!) in the same place twice. The hotel buffet breakfast is fresh, tasty and extensive and again the atmosphere in the breakfast room is relaxed and friendly with guests of all ages and nationalities in evidence... and talking to each other! It really is a lovely vibe in there.
A few negatives were a very poor and inconsistent (but free) wi fi connection to my Iphone, an air conditioner that never got really cold, pretty thin towels and the beginnings of mould in the shower area. The poor wi fi especially came as a surprise as the guests seemed an IT savvy lot with laptops, Iphones etc in use throughout. I reckon that a lot of us had read about the Harmony on TA. I would gladly have paid for a better wi fi facility. With regard to the air con, some friends attending the same wedding were staying in a much larger and more expensive hotel (also listed on this site) where the central air con was turned off every night between midnight and 6am!
Please do not be put off by these niggles because this really is a lovely small(ish) hotel that is great value and well deserves all the praise it has received on this site.
