Location great! View fantastic! Staff was super friendly and accommodated us in any way that they could. Dorms are okay, better than I expected from previous reviews, but still basic and a little run down (what else can you expect from one of the oldest most iconic cities in the world. As this is not a new development, things are not going to be new...) for the budget traveller you pay for what you get. Nothing more, but internet and a nice view maybe, nothing less :-)

I stayed in the female 3 bed. I was stuck at the airport for 6 hours and I called them to let them know I wouldn't be checking in on time and they were VERY accommodating and left me a key outside for me to let myself in.This literally saved me from sleeping God knows where. Their friendliness and helpfulness is 5 star. However the place could do with redecorating or something. It was not the most comfortable stay and the cleanliness is not the best. The location is great however I would not be back unless I was super desperate or on a tight budget.

The hostel is not clean. Dirty toilets and there are not enough showers. The rooms are very small and there is no sunlight because they have no windows. You must pay directly and when you want to leave earlier because the rooms are not okay you can't get money back. The people speak very bad english and they don't try to understand the problems with the room. The rooms don't have airco and are very hot in summer. Too much money for what you get at this place. They have internet in the lobby but most time it doesn't work and when it work you must pay expensive prices for it. It sames to be the worst place to stay in Jerusalem.

I stayed at the 5 bed dorm at this hostel and the room (number 11) was absolutely horrendous. The beds were put in every possible corner 2 were cramped together they looked more as a double bed than single ones other, 2 were put in a sort of a corridor before the bathroom doors, there was no space to leave luggage, the room was humid, there was no window, mold on the walls, dirty, smelly sheets and blankets, the en-suite bathroom looked as if it hadn't been cleaned properly in years, a huge hole in the wall covered with an old stained towel but providing a great entrance for cockroaches, the walls looked as if someone has given them random dirty brown brush strokes a very long time ago, the only cleaning the bathroom gets is by travelers who use the gum wiper provided after their showers. Bathroom also had no window or any ventilation system the only thing to provide air is a huge square opening on the top of the door which also makes sure that everyone in the room can hear (and smell) exactly what one is up to in the bathroom. The kitchen has almost or no crockery or utensils and is oily dirty as well.
After my first night there all my things from my bed including my own pillow cover, have been removed and stashed in a corner of the room, the bed was made and another person was using it. When I complained the receptionist who even claimed to be the owner (unfortunately I did not get his name) would not apologize for the cleaners' obvious mistake but he got all worked up instead angrily blaming the other travelers and asking me what I wanted from him. After that he had held a grudge for the rest of my stay (4 more nights unfortunately paid for in advance) and he would not even look at me again. How professional is that? I have to say that the other 2 receptionists that I met there were nice and helpful though but the only good thing about this hostel is the location and a terrace with a view. Hopefully the other rooms might be better, but I would never stay there again. I stayed at the Hebron hostel after that which was way nicer and cheaper.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the room 11

The Jaffa Gate Hostel is located directly at the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem and from the Top of the Hostel you have a beautiful view over the top of the city of jerusalem.

We made a private tour lasting around 5 hours with a guy we met on the street called 'Josef'. We are from germany and he was able to speak aroung 6 languages and he really made an excellent Job.

This Hostel is more a budget one and visitors should not have to high expectations. However the location is worth a stay and I would stay there again and this would be my third time then :D

Stayed in the 4 bed (5 person) ensuite room. The recommendation for this hostel is based on this room only. The room is in a cave (almost literally) with no windows and no ventilation. There is no free airflow and with the bathroom in the same room it is a bit humid smelling. The room is vaulted with sandstone so you will find sand particles lying around the floor or on too of your bed or luggage. I have allergies and did not find this to be a problem.

I was a bit hesitant to stay here as I'm a bit claustrophobic but if you have a full group this is a wonderful place to stay as the room has character and is very well lit (electrically). Beds are comfy and there is one of those Bedouin couches on the ground for lounging. Very quiet place and never heard any noise from other guests at night. The price is a bi expensive and doesn't include breakfast but te location is probably the best in all of Jerusalem. Not tucked in the middle of the old city and difficult to access. Right by Jaffa gate so easy to get dropped off by taxi or walk to light rail. a 15 minute max walk to all the major sights in Jerusalem.
