“Great location”
Reviewed 26 November 2012

Decor etc similar to the older style Spanish paradores. Location within the walls of the old city is ideal for walking to many of the main sites and around the walls. Rooms vary but of good size and equipment. New mattresses in our room were too firm for comfort - a common problem in many hotels. Food was quite varied but usual problem of serving and keeping hot food HOT. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially the male housekeeper. It is worth sampling the cheese and wine on 4th floor of the Notre Dame hotel a few minutes walk away - quite a place.

We stayed here for 4 nights and couldn't fault anything. The room was on the first floor overlooking the courtyard. The hotel is a mix of the old and the new. Beautiful old paintings and the original building is beautiful. Our room a double was spacious and comfortable and beautiful and clean. The food was varied and if the restaurant wasn't opened the sister hotel a 5 minute walk away was available to you. The hotel is in the Old City a 5 minute walk from Jaffa Gate and a 2 minute walk from New Gate. Major sites in the Old City are only a few minutes walk away. It was great to be able to be so close to everything and yet quiet and peaceful. The courtyard faces onto the old wall .You really feel part of the magnificent city.

My son and I stayed here for 1 night. It was in an excellent location and we had a twin room on the gound floor. Quite a basic room, but it was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our room looked out onto the hotels courtyard which abutted the old city wall. A lovely quiet area to sit and have a drink and meal. We ate dinner at one of the restaurants down the road (there are plenty to choose from). Excellent meal. The only negative about this hotel was one of its staff members. He was an older man working in the bar/rest and seemed to have it against my son and I. When my son went to have a quiet drink at around 9pm that night in the courtyard, the staff member was quite rude to him. In the morning we went down for breakfast at 6.30 (it was a glorious morning) and we took a table in the outside area (lovely courtyard). There was only 1 other couple there for breakfast. Anyway, the same man came up to my son and said we couldnt sit there as it was reserved, we had to sit inside. Which we did, but no where near as nice as outside. This same man did not offer coffee (which he did to others) to us and seemed rather displeased with us. Anyway, we left the hotel at 8.30am to start our day and that whole time not one person sat at that table that he told us to vacate. Apart from that a good stay there.

I stayed again at this hotel together with my father, and we both loved our stay here. The staff was very helpful and hospitable and the room was very comfortable, clean and quiet. It is absolutely unbelievable to be so close (only minutes of walk) to the Church if the Holy Sepulchre, the Western Wall and all other historical attractions, and be able to walk at night, when the hordes of tourists are gone. I will stay here every time I visit Jerusalem as tourist.

I wrote a scathing review of this hotel which Trip advisor posted ,to be fair the management saw fit ( I suspect having read the review )to refund all monies we spent .
This went along way to ameliorate the situation as previously described.
Thanks Trip Advisor .

We just loved staying at this hotel. The staff was knowledgeable and always ready to help, the room was clean and quite, the bed comfortable (king size in North American terms) and we enjoyed a very distinct “Jerusalem” atmosphere (stone walls, elaborate curtains, perspective towards the walls or the old city). We visited in the winter time and we were very pleased to be able to control the heating system in the room. The breakfast downstairs is an opportunity to network with other tourists and the food selection is good. We were impressed with the hospitality of the reception staff: we received all the information we needed and the service was beyond our expectations. When Wi-Fi stopped working, we were allowed to use the staff computer and print boarding passes without a charge. You can also exchange money for a very good rate. But most then anything, staying at this hotel allows you to walk the narrow, winding streets of old Jerusalem (including Via Dolorosa) late in the evening or early in the morning, when there are no crowds around and this is truly a privilege.

Do not stay at this hotel it is terrible.
The list of complaints is simply too long to go into or indeed to particularise.
Despite it's wonderful location ie meters from the New Gate the Old City this place has really blown it.
The staff with one sole exception ( George) are a bunch of rude incompetents who feel they are doing you the paying guest a favor by sticking the combined hands out for what ever currency you are unlucky enough to be carring.
My wife was very unwell having eaten in the old city , to ask for any sort of assistance was like one was
like the announcement of WW 3.
From the rooms to the food and service the place is terrible.
Don't be fooled into thinking that this is a place for Christians to rest up as it is apparently advertised,it is a world class rip off.
Do not stay there.
