“Great location poor management”
Reviewed 2 July 2010

For the past four summers I have been a guest at the rennaisance hotel with my wife and six children. In the summer of 2009 the hotel was under construction and every morning at 7 am we would hear drillings and noises from the construction workers and this made my family and I very uncomfterable. We continued coming to the hotel because of the beautiful location, outstanding management, and fair prices. In July 2010 we called the hotel to make reservation for us and a few other families that live around the world, and we understood that the hotel manager and some crew members have been changed . The new hotel manager Mr. Yaakov Shaari was extremly rude, and disrespectful. I do recommend the owner of the hotel to change Mr Shaari as manager if he wants guests from all over the world to continue coming to the rennaisance. my family and I will no longer be staying at thi hotel .

Don't book the hotel on line. Breakfast is NOT included if you book online for the less expensive rooms. Call the hotel directly and book your room. Breakfast is 30 USD per person, otherwise!

Hotel is clean. Our room was in the older section (being renovated - ask for room on the 10th or 11th floors to stay away from construction). Otherwise, insist on room in newer section. Our room was clean, TV worked well, great view from the upper floors. Breakfast buffet was well-stocked and tasty, but expensive if you didn't get it included in the room rate. The staff spoke English. There is a coffee shop on the lobby floor.

There are shops or restaurants in walking distance. Cabs are easy to get, however.

This hotel caters to the very orthodox. The foold is glatt kosher.

Staying in this hotel was INFURIATING!! Our flight from Jordan arrived around 11:00pm and so we didn't get to the hotel until after midnight. Our children (10 and 12) were hungry, but when we called to room service they said the were closed and we could get no food anywhere in the hotel until 6:30 the next morning. They suggested that we take a cab into the city and get food that way. After extensive discussion and pleading one of them suggested we call Dominos pizza and so at 1:30 am we had our first meal in Jerusalem. Then, we had a tour starting at 8:00 am one morning and we wanted a cup of coffee at 6:00 am. The same thing. No joy.

The rooms are ratty the bathrooms a mess (I suppose we are in the old section) and the staff are completely unhelpful. We are traveling around the world and this among the 3 worst hotels we've stayed at (one of the others is a Travel Lodge in LAX area that cost $60 per night). Don't stay here . . . and if there is ANY chance that the seemingly non-existent management of this hotel is reading this review, please provide food for your guests on a 24 hour basis! It doesn't have to be elaborate food . . . just food!

Also, the internet is incredibly expensive!!!

Stayed in executive room on 12th floor. Very nice sized modern room, comfortable bed, flat screen tv, roomy. Size of bathroom was okay although was surprised to see there was no bath tub. Large shower though. Didn't get to sample any of the food in the hotel so can't comment on that. Location of the hotel isn't great which is probably why it is cheaper than others more centrally located. Would stay there again and had a very pleasant stay!

We got into the hotel in the morning from Tiberias. Left our bags to the porters to carry to the room. When they finally brought up the bags, one of the bags were damaged. Not a good intro to the hotel.

When we got into the room in the old wing was a basic room with basic amenities. Rooms need to be renovated and was told that they were undergoing renovation. But the aircond was OFF! It was stifling hot and we had to open the windows to let the fresh air in. We were told that it was the winter season and they, as a policy, did not turn on the central air-cond. But Jerusalem was experiencing the hotel season (day temp around 34 degrees celsius). It was sweltering in the room.

Wanted to change room to the renovated wing but was told that there were no rooms available. Was told that the aircond system would be working the next day so in the meantime, just open the windows! This is an international hotel! :(

We did and we were kept awake because of the incessant ambulance and police sirens throughout the night. The aircond system did work the following night which was a relief.

The menu at the breakfast and dinner were basically the same but the service manager and his staff were polite and provided us good service throughout.

I would not recommend you to stay at this hotel. If you have to, stay in the renovated wing cause it is much better. The older wing is a very poor cousin of the new wing. If your agent books you in this hotel, ask which wing are they going to put you in. Demand for the new wing. We saw the rooms in the new wing and it is very different with fridge, safe etc which we did not have in our rooms. And the best part, both wings are priced the same! So dont get persuaded by your travel agent that both wings are the same cause they're NOT!

The hotel is undergoing extensive renovations. From 9-5 there's unbearable noise and drilling in the hotel. To make matters worse they just started repaving/reconfiguring the front driveway so there's auto access. The location really isn't great, the nearest convenience store equivalent is a 20+ minute walk to the Central Bus Station. When I arrived, the phone in the room didn't work and there were no amenities to speak of. When I asked if I could have an iron, they directed me to a room that looked more like a meat locker in the basement aptly named the "ironing room." I'd avoid.
