Azzahra Hotel & Restaurant

The staff here were wonderful. It has a nice restaurant attached. We let the waiter order for us and he did a great job. Nicely priced as well. The location is handy. The beds could have been better. Hard to find if you're driving , but they do have free parking.

We spent a lovely week in this hotel last year in January 2013. Close to the Old city gates, within 10 minutes walk of the Wailing Wall. Although not facing the street will confuse some folks, our taxi got us to the hotel just fine. It is obvious that the building is not purpose built, and sometimes I wish the architectural features were recognized instead of ignored. Not a interior designers dream, in other words. But that is the only lack. The staff was to a man attentive, helpful. The place is neat as a pin. We found it very affordable. It had a fridge in the room and enough outlets. The bath was simple but complete. The restaurant is good. Breakfast is a nice buffet and they make eggs to order. Their service is what will take us back. We inquired for a car and driver. We may never see him again, but he made our jaunts to the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, Masada, and back to Tel Aviv airport pleasant, safe, all the while patient and charming. Our Jewish colleagues were shocked we would stay in that area, but for local color and lovely hospitality, we would not have missed it. The folks who run this establishment are winners.

Finding Azzahra Hotel can be a bit tricky. Try a search with Google Maps and points you into wrong directions. Luckily our Open Street Map on Garmin gave perfect directions when we drove to the hotel from the Dead Sea.

The hotel staff is very polite and helpful. There was not a free parking space in front of the hotel but they said not to worry. We gave the car keys and after a while our car was perfectly parked in a niche by the hotel building.

The hotel has 2-3 stories and it looks like the original building has been extended. The rooms in the old part seem to have high ceilings. Ours was a corner room in the very far end of the building. The room was quiet, smallish and would benefit from some new decoration. Wifi wasn't very good in this particular room.

Breakfast was included in the price and was ok, typical for the area.

Location is handy. A short walk from the old city, there is a direct Arab bus to Mount of Olives and it is only 15 min walk to West Jerusalem. The neighbourhood is Arab and mostly Muslim.

The hotel restaurant is recommended. Food is good, big portions, reasonable prices and friendly service. And you get Taybeh (West Bank Brewery beer) from tap!

I spent only one night in this hotel, but from the moment of reservation to the final departure it felt like a unique home: the people who make Azzahra Hotel will go out of their way to ensure that all your needs are addressed, ranging from arranging pick ups and talking with non-English speaking taxi drivers to preparing packed meals and adjusting the room to your wishes. Each and every room and place in the hotel has its own unique character. The restaurant serves most delicious (and copious) very good value meals. And most importantly, the service is uniquely personal.

This is a very habitable hotel. It's very close to Old City - 10 mins. The breakfast was the highlight - excellent food and great service from very attentive waiters (there seemed more of them than there were guests). The immediate neighbourhood (Conservatorium) is nice however within a few minutes one enters a particularly dirty streetscape with lots of rubbish, stray cats (well, this is all over Jerusalem) and a sense of great contamination. If this is a problem then take a taxi. For us it was very interesting to compare with another location on the other side of Jaffa Gate - a different ethnic and religious setting - which was much cleaner. The hotel itself is a little tired but clean. The room that we stayed in needed a drastic overall of its bedcover.

We stayed in this hotel for a week and simply loved it. It's only a short walk away from the Old City, and located in a quiet street in a lively neighbourhood. (Go for a coffee in the international bookshop if you want to meet people) The restaurant of the hotel offers very good pizzas, but there is a range of other tasty dishes. The rooms are comfortable, best most importantly, the staff is brilliant. Their friendliness and helpfulness is amazing. This had become my favorite place to stay in Jerusalem.

The immediate area is full of life, 5 minutes from the American Colony Hotel, plentiful falafel /kebab stalls and very good bookshops. It's a 10 minute walk from Herod's Gate and 15 minutes from Damascus Gate, so it feels very close to the Old City.

The service is outstanding - all the advance communication was efficient, and the welcome when we arrived was extremely warm. They bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable.

The only thing stopping me want to stay for longer was the facilities in the rooms - the decor is rather dated, and they have some rather nasty polyester sheets - but this is an excellent choice. The restaurant and bar downstairs is a particular draw.
