Super bar food- But we went for dinner and the food was nothing special! So if you are just going for pizza and a drink it is perfect. If you are looking for good food, you should choose and other place to eat. The hotel looked cosy, I am sure it could be a nice place to stay!

Was taken to the restaurant by friends who live nearby. I understand that the current owner has been at the hotel about 3 years and his reputation is improving year-on-year.
What a good choice, as we enjoyed the best meal we've had in Jerusalem in two recent visits. Service was excellent, despite the restaurant being nearly full. Menu was long but we all ordered from the Palestinian specials section which proved to be a good choice. We got a complimentary appetiser which was quite small and just as well as the main course portions turned out to be very large and we all struggled. Food was delicious, helped down by draught Taybeh beer too. We also got complimentary desserts and coffee too, I'm not sure if this is usual or because our friends are regulars there.
Cost for 7 was about 600 shekels which I thought pretty good value

I have stayed at the Azzahra 3 times so far. First 2 occasions were on business . Third occasions was with family.

My experience during the first visit was the best. The second was just ok. The third was terrible .

I will first begin with the positives.

1) They have an excellent restaurant that serves good Italian food.

2) The location is very close to the old city.

3) prices are reasonable for the room size

Now the negatives

1) some of the staff are not trained in customer service. This is based on 2 experiences : a) during breakfast and b) when requesting for a taxi.

the attitude of some of the staff is very unprofessional. the service during breakfast is totally inattentive. The staff keep chatting with each other during breakfast. The items are not replenished despite repeat requests. And the staff yousef plays dumb , speaks rudely and tells that I got the name of a dish incorrect .

Similar experience when requesting taxi. Requested a taxi from the libby and waited for a taxi for more than 30 minutes. finally got one from outside . When I came back , the person questions ( I repeat, questions me in his harsh tone) why I did not wait . While I know that the hotel does not control the time of the taxi arrival, some modesty and refinement is needed in treating a customer.

In short customer service is lacking completely . To be fair, Not all staff are like that. Some are genuine and nice .Others definitely need training .

2) front office ( lobby) management needs improvement. At times , junior staff are in the lobby (especially afternoons) who lack customer service. You will need to ring the bell several times before the gruffy person attends to you.

The manger i dealt with was somewhat accommodative and helpful .

Management needs to put a training program together and teach staff how to be professional in dealing with customers .

Service at the time of breakfast should be drastically improved.

Lobby management should be improved, especially during the afternoon

Lunch and dinner service has been good all three times I visited - no improvement suggestions there

Visited restaurant 3 times with parties of 3 to 6 during busy Easter week when it was crowded. The food and service was exceptional. Most of the diners were foreigners and meals were Palestinian and European. On one visit a member of my party made an unreasonable and boiserous demand of the waiter and he complied without hesitation. This was my favorite restaurant in Jerusalem. Less than ten minute walk from Herard Gate of Old City.

Room Tip: Did not stay in hotel. Just ate in restaurant.

I have not stayed at the hotel, but I have visited this restaurant on 3 visits to Jerusalem. Great menu which features Palestinian cuisine as well as great pizza. Taybe beer on tap. Visited with a group of adults and with family and a newborn baby. Family friendly. Salads are big servings and very good. Cucumber/Yoghurt salad and Tabouli are favorites..

We stayed with a group of 24 people which just about filled the available rooms, which was very fortunate as we could determine meal times and were alone for breakfast. It also shows the smallness of the place with respect to hotel amenities. But these are nice, atmospherically inviting with helpful and attentive staff. The rooms vary quite a bit. Few sizable, some very small, but you don't come to Jerusalem to stay in the hotel.
The Restaurant was excellent (watch out for the sizable servings!), the service attentive even when the restaurant was (almost every night) f8ll, the availability of wine and beer unusually good. Highly recommende for a visit to Jerusalem within walking distance to the old city (Damascus gate). But don't come with a car.

Room Tip: Some rooms (doubles) small. 3-4 bed rooms sizable, even with small balcony. Amazingly quiet for the...
