For our family (5 adults and 2 kids) it was perfect to stay in studio A and studio B, with just a corridor between, and we felt at home right from the beginning, thanks to Ruti who was ever so friendly. We also enjoyed the lovely garden which extended our liberty of action. Morasha is a cosy neighbourhood within walking distance of all the wonderful places in Jerusalem - even with a stroller! A nearby playground and a nearby parking place by terms of payment

We loved the location of Barkai Studios; the convenience for shopping and closeness to the Old City. Our studio with cooking facilities was convenient and Ruthie was such a help, with great advice about things to see and do. For us, it was the perfect place to stay.

I stayed in Studio A for two weeks. The apartment was clean and comfortable. It is not fancy, but is definitely more comfortable than staying in a $200+ a night cramped hotel room. It has all the amenities needed for a small apartment with a refrigerator, toaster oven, hot plate and kitchen table. The shower is a bit small but workable. Ruth is a wonderful host and is very helpful and friendly. Her home is attached to the apartment and her workshop is in the garden so she is readily available if assistance is needed. While staying here you get the real Jerusalem experience. However, you have to remember that it is not a hotel so don't expect daily maid service but Ruth's hospitality more than makes up for someone making your bed on a daily basis. The apartment also has wireless internet of decent speed and basic cable television with a few english channels.

Ruti Barkai is an artist who lives in a quiet residential neighborhood a short walk from both the Old City and Ben Yehudah Street, so the location was perfect for us. Her short street is hard to find so get a good map before you get into a cab. If you can get the garden studio, that is probably the nicest, but we found her small studio with a loft bed perfectly fine for our family of four and the price was great. Travelers should keep in mind that Ruti is renting you a studio apartment in her home, not running a hotel or B&B. The room we stayed in was no frills but perfectly adequate and we did not come to Jerusalem to stay in a room. Ruti is friendly, helpful, and kind. She went out of her way to be of assistance. If you need a fancy hotel, pay the price, but if you want to experience a genuine neighborhood, Ruti's place will fit the bill.

Barkai studio is the perfect place to stay in Jerusalem: the location is excellent, just 5min from Damascus gate and New gate. So you can basically walk everywhere in the Old City, go to Olives Mount easily, and Jaffa Street and the new city are also about 10min walk.
We had the garden studio which is very nice, you can eat outside. It is quite big, has a nice bathroom with shower (and a blowdryer) and small kitchen. There is free wireless internet if you happen to bring your laptop with you.
Most importantly, the owner Ruti is very helpful with all little things like booking sherut, checking transportations etc... and it makes a real difference.
I really recommend this place and would stay there again.

We enjoyed our visit to Barkai studios this spring. Ruthi is a lovely person that really tried to make our stay enjoyable. The location is excellent and easy walk to the old city and city center. The price is still a good deal, especially with the location. One strange note, turns out the rate is cheaper in US dollars, than in Shekels. We were quoted a price in USD, and when we arrived said we decided to pay in NIS, and were quoted a price that was roughly $10 more per night (which adds up over a week). We exchanged our NIS for USD and saved $60 by paying in USD.

A few downsides. Some strange smells on the street outside the room and in the bathroom (which is very small, but will fit an average sized adult). Also, the linens while clean had a smell of mildew or cats. Overall, the place is clean and comfortable given the price tag. Also, parking can be a bit challenging if you bring a car.

In March, we stayed for a week at Barkai Studios again, having been there also in July. It is truly like coming home for us! Ruti is the warmest, kindest, most helpful person and the apartments are lovely -- comfortable, clean, quiet, and perfectly located. Between Ruti's generosity, the charm of the neighborhood, the convenience of the studio's set-up, and the access to old and new Jerusalem, I could not imagine a more perfect location. Highly recommended!
