“Very bad atmosphere”
Reviewed 27 July 2011

Have to say that the hotel is beautifully located, the rooms are modern, the pillows are great…
But the staff… oh the staff - to get a smile was not an option, but indecent proposals and sleazy looks were common. Gave us a very bad feeling. Never felt that in any other hotel in the world (and definitely not in a 5 star one…) .
Will never return to this hotel.

Wrote that sleep quality in the hotel was not very good... because although the "do not disturb" sigh was on – we were interfered twice… and heard that there was the same problem in other rooms too…

This hotel has the best location: a few minutes' walk from the old city, through Mamila shopping mall and dozens of restaurants and bars nearby.
Having an ultra-modern design makes it a bit challenging to find things, and some don't operate the way you expect them to. First of all: beware of the mini-bar! If you so much as peek into one of it's drawers, your room is automatically charged. They did take it of our bill when we brought the item down and explained. Lights- it took us some time to find out that the bed-lights are controlled by a dimmer, so you can turn them up, if you want to read. The hair dryer is in a drawer in the closet. If you need to hang up anything in the bathroom, there are 2 small hangers above the bath tub. There are plenty of mirrors in the room, but I couldn't find one with enough light to put on make-up.
The room rate is not cheap, so it is a little annoying that they charge you for everything they can: parking, wifi and even room service has a fixed rate in addition to the already overpriced prices. Some hotles chage for these, some don't. I preffer the ones that don't.
The hotel is new and is clean and well maintained.
The breakfast was very good, even the one on Saturday morning, which has to be cold to be kosher. The food is sophisticated, but I think there is enough variety so that even people that are more conservative with their food can find something to eat.
It is very nice to sit for a drink on the roof-top restaurant that has a great view of the old city.

The hotel is very modern in a fabulous location. It's located right on the Mamilla mall with restaurants and shops. This is the walkway to the Old City - Jaffa Gate. It is also close to Ben Yehuda and Jaffa streets for shopping, restaurants and pubs.
We were booked here as part of a tour (B group hotels). We enjoyed the comfy towels and robes. The bathroom is ultra modern with a flip of a switch making the glass opaque. The bathroom counter space is sparse, but it didn't bother us. There is a separate magnifying make up mirror. There's a US plug outlet in case you forgot your converter.
The breakfast is fabulous with made to order omelettes and anything else you could want. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful.
My husband loved the indoor serenity pool and swam after a long day of touring. The upstairs cafe looked lovely, but was too hot to sit there.
My only complaint (if I had to have one) was that there wasn't a clock in the room...
We loved it here!

When you pay $500 a night, a good service is expected. Spent just one night at the Mamilla hotel, and still I wonder how one could get it worse.
Just 2 of the Examples:
1) The room I got smelled of sewage. Reception offered to send somebody to fix it.
2) When I returned to the hotel at noon I was stopped by one of the bell boys. Are you a guest? he asked rudely, What room? What's your name? ...
Cannot remember getting this kind of service anywhere.

Smartly designed, comfortable if not generously sized rooms, an Israeli breakfast buffet that focuses more on quality than most, located at one end of upscale Mamilla Mall and a ten minute delightful walk to Jaffa Gate - what's not to love?

The Mamilla Hotel advertises itself as a "Design Hotel" and that is true - many aspects of the rooms and common areas are clearly the products of contemporary and perhaps cutting edge design. However, the designs are frequently at the expense of function and comfort. The room we stayed in was small, cramped and dark. The view was one of the worst I have ever had in a hotel. - we looked out on a wall of windows from an adjoining hotel, just a few dozen feet away. There was one amusing gimmick in the room, which was that the bathroom had glass walls - that could be changed from completely transparent to fogged/translucent. (One reason for this gimmick may be to make the bedroom appear bigger. ) The fixtures in the bathroom were all boxy - rectangular sink, bathtub (like sitting in a box - not too comfortable) and the worst was the square toilet seat, which does not conform to anyone's derriere - and was very uncomfortable. Other design flaws include built in cabinets that are too high, with the safe on such a high shelf that I couldn't see in - had to feel around to determine if I had left anything. There were not enough hangers in the closet. And the minibar was disappointing. There was no room to put anything to keep it cold. I am of average height and found that the peephole in the door was not usable as it was positioned way too high for me to see out of. When you take a shower, the whole floor gets wet in the bathroom, and there's nowhere to hang up a robe. Unlike many hotels in Jerusalem, there was no balcony. I felt very claustophobic. The pool in the basement is in a facility that is also heavy on design (quite unique) but dark. I swam in the pool - it was very shallow, and that even made laps less enjoyable.
On the positive side, the food was delicious (we ate shabbat dinner, breakfast and lunch) and they provide nice amenities, like terry robes. The location is great - right around the corner from Mamilla Mall, with great shopping. We also were able to walk to the Jaffa Gate, and all the way to the Kotel on shabbat with no problem.

We heard many people say it’s THE hotel to go to in Jerusalem so our expectations were high. It is indeed very nice, sleek, clean and modern. The food is very good and there is a large enough variety to suit everyone. The Mirror Bar is gorgeous and we would go there even if we were not staying at the hotel. There is an indoor pool in the basement, which is a little dark because the walls are composed of dark blue tiles, but of good size and perfectly nice.
The location is ideal, the views are brilliant and the surroundings are very nice: set just above an outdoor mall, with plenty of shops and restaurants.
By all standards, the Mamilla is a 5 star Hotel but something did not quite add up. I think if it were not for the liquid crystal bathroom walls feature, that go from transparent to opaque at a tough of a button, I would have been left pleased but unimpressed by the bedrooms. It’s actually expensive for a small room who’s finish is not perfect (ex: paper tissue boxes).
