“Cool Modern Luxury”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Our family went to Israel this past April for a Spring Break getaway. Jeruslaem was at the end of the trip so I wanted to splurge on a bit of luxury for our last hotel. We picked the Mamilla based on reviews and photos because we were attracted to the modern, Moshe Safdie design as well as its rooftop restaurant and view and its proximity to the Old City. We were torn between the King David and the Mamilla and also considered other boutique hotels recommended by our tour guide. We decided on the Mamilla because it had a newer, cutting edge feel to it without sacrificing luxury.

We all loved the Mamilla (particularly my 2 boys ages 10 and 13). Our suite was beautifully designed and spacious and even had a view of the Old City. The lobby, dining area and outdoor eating spaces were equally beautiful and the service generally impeccable. The club room for snacks during the day was also nice but the selections could have been broader. Great views from the rooftop restaurant as we had hoped and a bustling nighttime scene. The only slight snag was the cleaning service which could be improved to be up to the standards of the rest of the hotel. Otherwise this would easily be 5 stars. Fantastic walking proximity to the Old City and either a walk or a short cab drive to restaurants.

We would eagerly stay here again.

I stayed in a suite at the hotel for 5 nights in may 2014.

The hotel is really beautiful; modern and taseful, clean and light. The staff are helpful and polite.

The hotel is well located just a ten minute wall (if that) from the Jaffa Gate. There are modern shops and restaurants close by but the hotel rooms were still quite and not overlooked.

The facilities in the hotel are what you would expect from a five star establishment.

The breakfast is generous and there is plenty of choice. The rooftop restuarant is beautiful and the food very good.

There were a couple of points, however, which prevented me from awarding a five star rating to the hotel:

1.) The sun terrace was not available on the two occasions that I tried to use it. A private function was being held up there. There is no where else in the hotel to enjoy the sunny weather if the terrace is closed.

2.) The re stocking of the room each day by housekeeping was a bit haphazard and the staff were not able to provide me with any shower gel on the couple of occasions that I asked for it.

3.) The guest lounge never had any tonic available and no one offered to seek any from one of the bars in the hotel.

Admittedly, the points above are not particularly major but the hotel is not cheap and so I expected high standards.

This hotel has been over rated in our opinion, world class and five star service? Our stay was ok, took us 40 minutes to check in, the front desk suggested to upgrade us to executive suite for a fee of course, we agreed, but when we booked we have requested one big bed only to find two separate beds!! the upgrading of room included access to the "executive Lounge", of which from experience is NOT at all to be called an "executive lounge'! there was barely nothing to eat, very basic, peanuts, and small cakes and little sweets..wine..coffee, drinks, and the atmosphere and service is far too "cold"! The room was ok, wifi was very bad connection, the bathroom as many have already described in their reviews is one of the most impractical bathroom we have ever seen! the closet is super high that it made it impossible for us to hang any clothes in the closet! The Manager called us and was very apologetic for the inconvenience of the check in, the wifi, and the "executive lounge". We appreciated the gesture of little sweets in our room plus a very good bottle of Isareli red wine. Indeed the designer of the rooms may have not stayed in there to see the practicality of his/her design. Otherwise, the breakfast was nothing to write home about, it was the same thing for 6 days!!! good location, walking distance to the old town, good restaurants around. Next time , we will try other international hotels which may have the real standard of 'world class'.

My partner and I had the pleasure of stay at the Mamilla in May and had an incredible stay. The staff, the service and the overall experience were one of the best we have experienced in the world. We travel extensively and are fussy about what we like. The Mamilla hit the mark all around. They even arranged a taxi for us to Tel Aviv that was affordable and entertaining. The rooftop bar, the breakfast on the patio - meeting fellow decreeing travellers. What a joy. We look forward to our next visit and staying in this amazing hotel once again.

Room Tip: We loved the bathroom - but didn't need extra space for "toiletries" like the America...

We stayed at the Mamila during our recent vacation in Israel.
It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
The location is really the best in the city to really enjoy Jerusalem.
The service at the hotel was exceptional and the breakfast we had was one the best we ever experienced. Special thanks to the Mamila staff for making our time in Jerusalem very special.

It's expensive, no doubt. But Mamilla is 10 minute walk (through a shopping center) to the Jaffa Gate and the old city and is right in the middle of the coolest part of Jerusalem. But the service from the concierge was the best I've had in years of travel. Kudos to Fernanda, in particular!

The location of the Mamilla is fantastic, leading onto the shopping center to the Jaffa Gate. The hotel is clean, modern and pleasant. The staff were friendly and wonderful. Has some of the best food options in that part of town.

But whoever designed the bathrooms seemingly has never had to use them. There is no where to put your toiletries except BEHIND you on a rickety small awkward table, where they fall down constantly. Want a tissue? You have to go around the wall to the back of the tub area where a completely useless shelf holds them. Want a bath, get ready to wait 25 to 30 minutes for it to fill! How about a shower, be sure to ask for extra towels because the shower floors aren't set down enough and water will slowly cover the floor of the entire bathroom. I didn't have this problem but if you want to put on make-up, prepare to bring a lamp because you won't be able to see a damn thing in their mirrors the lighting is so terrible.

Everything else about this hotel is wonderful but the bathrooms are so frustratingly inconvenient, I do not plan on staying there again the next time I come.

Room Tip: Maybe there are other bathroom types on other floors. Do not take the modern glass box ones or if t...
