“Modern Jerusalem Meets Old Jerusalem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2010

You'll find many reviews praising the aesthetics and service at the Mamilla, not to mention the rooftop bar overlooking the Old City. What you won't find is insight into the experience of staying in Jerusalem's most contemporary hotel so close to the Old City. The contrast intensifies the connection between ancestors and modern society, enhancing any spiritual journey to Jerusalem. Plus, the Israeli breakfast is not to be believed. Hats off to Yarno for arranging a fantastic tour of the Old City, visit to Masada, and some great meals at Kurdish and Moroccan restaurants.

We had a wonderful stay at the Mamilla hotel. The hotel is overall beautiful and the location is excellent. The rooms, the view from the Rooftop restaurant and the impeccable service topped our Israeli experience. George Ladaw in particular was very helpful. He took excellent care of us from beginning to end. Any requests we had, he made sure they were satisfied!!! You must see the view from the Rooftop...it is heavenly and truly makes you appreciate Jerusalem. I would say that the Mamilla hotel has the best bird's eye view of the Old City in Jerusalem. The Mamilla Hotel is new and it is definitley going to give the traditional King David Hotel a run for it's money. Oh and the crystal screen bathrooms/showers will make you feel like you are in a luxurious spa...in the future. Once again, beautiful, beautiful hotel.

we stayed for a weekend at the mamilla, the building and rooms are beautiful
the location is one of the best in jerusalem,in the middle of the mamilla center with shops and restaurants, the old city and many other sites at walking distance.
the friday evening meal was good ,the deserts amazing.whoever on shabbat(saterday)breakfast was very disappointing-no warm dishes available -we keep kosher and in other kosher hotels we always have hot food on shabbat.
saterdaynight the mamilla cafe was closed and the esspressobar closed at 22.30 so there was no coffee or other light snacks available.
i would definitly recommend the hotel for a midweek stay but not for the weekend

Nice people. Clean BUT inadequate staff. So inadequate that they did not clean our room, return our laundry, remove room service.

They do not answer the phone after dozens of tries. Messages for the manager unanswered.

Hours on line at the front desk.

This is a third world hotel . . . actually never had this bad an experience at a third world hotel.

I had read the negative reviews here, but wanted to see for myself because the design looks wonderful and the location is amazing. Both of those things are true. However, the hotel staff could not have been more unwelcoming. There was no greeting upon arrival, no attempt to help me with my luggage. The front desk staff seemed completely disinterested and were frequently rude. There was a complete lack of service here - until this is fixed, I would not recommend staying here, especially given the relatively high price.

The rooms are fine, a bit small though. The bathtub did not fill because the stopper was broken, a number of attempts to have it fixed were left ignored.

Also, they charge for internet and it was quite expensive...

Stay somewhere else.

Spent one night with my wife and enjoyed it much as a young couple that came to Jerusalem to relax a bit. The hotel is very well decorated and has one of the most beautiful roofs i've seen with a view to the old city. You can sit there at sunset with a glass of beer or wine and really soak it in...
Only small things that disturbed us was the fact that the bed mattress was not of a really high quality and the fact that on Shabbat some of the hotel's activites and services are limnited (the amazing bar is closed, the restaurant only serves limited variety of dishes etc) but the fact that the hotel is so well situated allowed us to find good alternatives.

The Great: Cool rooms with bathroom wall glass that changes from clear to opaque (for privacy) at the push of a button. Best location in Jerusalem near the Old City, elegant galleries, charming shops, and restaurants. Friendly and helpful staff. GREAT breakfast included in room price. American electric outlet in the room was a useful addition.

The Bad: Studio rooms cost $370 per night for 2 persons (I tried hard to find a better internet price, but was unable to do so). Larger rooms are $504 per night. Wifi is an additional $20 per 24 hours and we had difficulty accessing it. Inadequate bathroom counterspace. Gym is still not open after a year. Pool is open, but indoors. We had requested (and been promised) a king bed, but it was two twins pushed together. Beds were really hard and uncomfortable.

The Ugly: Lipstick marks on hotel room bathroom glass. Gross! Also, we had dinner at the rooftop bar and there was a large piece of plastic wrapper in my soup.

This is a definitely NOT a five star hotel. Although it was adequate and cool, I had expected better.
