This is a guest house run with love and dedication. We missed it when we moved on after 1 week.
It is very well located near the Damascus Gate and near public transport such as the Jerusalem Light Rail and the Arab bus stations.

Excellent position, simple, but good rooms with all the comforts (except TV-set), there is Wi-Fi, good and rich breakfast, nice franciscaine sisters as personnel. Friendly staff at the reception (Mrs. Norma, Mr. Francis), great Sister Herminia! Everything was good, and I'll remember my stay here for a long time and with gratitude.

Our small party stayed here over a couple of weeks in September 2013. Spotlessly clean and tidy, bedrooms are simply and beautifully equipped, fully air conditioned and lovely en suite bathrooms. Loads of hot water. Beds comfortable and lots of pillows, linens and towels changed daily etc.
Breakfast delightful; breads and toast, fruits and cereals, hot savouries, great coffee, cheeses olives and the hypnotically addictive hummus and za'atar with olive oil jugs give you the great start for a full day in Jerusalem and beyond.
Breakfast room very friendly with Sr Herminia and her colleague Sr Danuta making sure everyone was welcomed.
Hot and cold water fountains available on all floors.
Bi-lingual chambermaids speak English, as do all reception staff.
Sister Herminia, originally from the Philippines, runs the guest house, and is fluent in 5 languages including English, French, Spanish and Arabic with conversational Polish. She also has an encyclopaedic knowledge of where to eat, which taxi to use if you are travelling alone or in a group, the opening times of everywhere including the best places in the markets to buy your treats. This guest house and Sr Herminia is a first class tourist information centre!
Centrally located, a 2-minute walk to the Damascus Gate and from there the whole of the walled city opens up to you. The guest house and surrounding gardens are however wonderfully quiet and restful, perhaps due to the style of the building and the lovely architecture.
Perfectly safe, secure accommodation for groups or single travellers, and given the "exciting times" in the Middle East currently, we saw / experienced NO trouble at all when visiting Jerusalem and wider afar in Israel including the West Bank and Bethlehem during our stay.

Room Tip: Cancel your other hotel and try and get booked in here.

My husband & I stayed here at the end of January for 6 nights .
Both the room and private ensuite are very clean.
All the staff were super helpful and friendly especially Sister & Francis.
Emails need to be kept brief and simple to assist with language barriers. When I had not received a reply I phoned and found out Sister was away at the time.
Breakfast was great - Juice, a variety of Teas & Coffee, Cereals, Cheeses, Yoghurt, Meats, Fruit, Breads, Toast & Spreads.
The place is kept locked up - you buzz staff from the gate for entry.
Position - couldn't be better - 100m from Damascus gate/the Old City.
We felt totally safe walking around Jerusalem.
Plenty of Restaurants within walking distance which was great.
Price - you won't beat.
As previously stated taxi drivers and alike don't recognise either the name of the place or the address but "opposite the garden tomb" works well. It is a one way street so it was often easier to get dropped up at the intersection and walk back down.
Being January heating was available.
Towels changed daily.
One of our pillows was very hard but the beds were comfortable.
We were very happy with our stay.

With four nights to spend in Jerusalem and a tight budget, Franciscaines de Marie Guest House was a great find. Right outside the walls of the old city by the Damascus gate and with free secure parking, I challenge anyone to find better value.

Sat-nav didn't recognise Nablus Road as a destination, but friendly Arabs were keen to point us in the right direction. Right opposite the Garden tomb.

Very clean en-suite rooms and a splendid breakfast spread to start the day, helpful staff, always a delight to return to after tiring days. What more could anyone want?

Less than one block from Damascus Gate into the Old City, this is convenient location. It is run by nuns in the Franciscan Order, and they are kind and helpful, particulary Sister Herminia who seems to be in charge. The Arab Christian staff all speak English and are also helpful. I stayed in a room off the garden which included a kitchenette. Downside is you have to be in by 11:00 at night when they lock the gates. Jerusalem lodging can be expensive but this place is a great value. Most lodgers are part of pilgrim tour groups from Europe but solo travelers, such as I was, are welcome also. The Arab bus station is a block away and the light rail going into West Jerusalem has a station two blocks away.
