“Big expectations”
Reviewed 2 February 2014

We booked a room including breakfast & a massage for two. The breakfast was great. The room was nice but not as we expected.I seems that we got the smaller room because we booked for a day use only. Upon check in we were told that there is only one masseuse and we won't be able to do it together. we came to be together and we spent half of the time sepately. It was very dissapointing.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the bigger rooms

On the occasion of my wife's birthday we booked a short weekend at Allegra boutique hotel in Ein Karem Jerusalem
This is a beautiful place un abeautiful neighborhood. Clean room and excellent service.
Room size In Photos a little misleading. Has it all was enough, but a bit cramped for my taste.
Transition from the bedroom to the bathroom through the hallway a bit bare for my taste, atrium windows facing the garden are not sealed.
I also ordered dinner in the hotel's chef kitchen (which I've included a couple of friends).
A phone call from the hotel I was asked to report at the chef, special requests, I mentioned that our friend has a problem with peppers, and indeed was this considerd.
The breakfast was also excellent and unique.
Unfortunately there were several falls - the little things:
Arrival of friends for dinner was to be part of surprise - the receptionist did not notice this when registering, and the surprise was discovered ...
A few days before the trip I got a call in which the hotel wanted to know what newspaper we prefer. Although we have answered a newspaper did not reach our room.
The room had clean towels and bathrobes. The robes were torn damaged not say - shame.
New flip-flops were in the bag for us to use. But the size did not fit. For my wife they where too big, and for me too small. - When called to ask about the nwespaper, they could ask the size and save the mismatch...
In conclusion, it was fine but the high price charged by the hotel could also these little unpleasantness close.

My wife and I spent a night at this boutique hotel to celebrate our anniverssary. It was a wondreful experience. The place is situated in the heart of Ein Kerem, an old and quaint part of Jerusalem. They have just seven suites, each unique in its setting. They offer a gourmet dinner prepared by their chef at an intimate setting. Very highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a suite in the main building - they have two suites which are more spacious and quiter.

We spent 4 days there with our extended family, for a special get-together. This gave us a chance to see all the 7 rooms we stayed at.... I think they rate by order - No. 1 and No. 2 are, by far, the best rooms. My partner and I were fortunate to stay at room 1. It is one of the most beautiful rooms I ever slept in. No. two is very similar. 3 is smaller and darker (no. 1 has huge windows, photo attached) and is less spacious. No. 4 had no closet and is smaller than the first two. 5 was even smaller. the other two suites are in a semi-basement.
Our room was gorgeous, well equipped with everything we wanted and more. a good coffee maker, great beddings, good TV and music player. Art books "thrown around" added a touch. I could have done without the open "erotic photo album" that was sheer pornography to me. But no big deal, we closed it and put it away.
Toiletries are generous and of high quality. On top of the "bath toiletries" they also provide a toothbrush and toothpaste, flip-flops and bathrobes etc. the towels were fine. The beddings were superb.
The open-kitchen/dining room is beautiful and fun. The garden gorgeous, and the roof offers a beautiful view over the golden top of the Russian church and a great setting for a glass of wine in the evening.

So why “ALMOST” perfect? Because for a place that aims so high, it was not clean as it should have been, especially the bathroom, that had black marble walls that showed many hand prints and fur from the dripping water, and dust around the room.
Because getting there is a hassle, even with the very good intentioned phone assistance and an updated GPS system. Because parking is an issue.

There were mishaps, such as an aircondition not working in room 2, water not going down in the tub at room 1, television not working in room 3 – but all were taken care of very quickly as soon as we reported on it. I think that mishaps might happen anywhere, and as long as it is fixed quickly and thoroughly, it is ok.

Staff was great, especilly Daniella, who went out of her way to make sure we were happy. She is a delight. Having a staff member there 24/7 is very very helpful.

True, it is not in the very heart of Jerusalem, so if you are there ro explore the city (especially the old city, especially if you are without a car), the location is not perfect - but that is very clear ahead of time. if you are looking for a gorgeous romantic gataway, and are willing to pay the price, it is wonderful. just choose the right room...

Room Tip: room 1 or room 2 are by far better than the other rooms.

Arriving at the hotel takes some ingenuity, since there are no guiding signs. They said is was because of the neighbors. We manage, although with some difficulty, to find a parking space near the hotel.
What the hotel calls "suite" was in fact a mid-size room with one smallish window. The room has a number of levels separated by steps - beware!
One the towels we got was torn, with a large hole to boot - unacceptable in any hotel.
The door to the garden is so narrow that overweight guests must stay inside.
We drove to Jerusalem proper for dinner, and when we came back around 10 PM we unexpectedly found outside our door a picnic basket with wine and some unidentified food that we had no use for.
The good points: the staff was friendly and willing to help. The breakfast was really good, with fresh bread baked in the oven in front of us. The roof is a nice place to sit and relax in the late afternoon - a cool escape from the Tel Aviv humidity.
With stricter quality control and lower prices this could be a nice place for a romantic holiday.

The hotel itself is beautiful, and our room was well designed (if you don't mind that your bathroom has glass walls). However, it is not very well maintained, especially with comparison to hotels in this price range, which is quite high. There is mold in the bath and wet stains all over the place, the tap is leaky and other things you don't expect when you pay this much money.
The garden is amazing - you should ask to have your breakfasts there.
The service is practically random. Some of the people we encountered were hospitable, accommodating and charming, and with others - it seems like we were bothering them on their summer vacation. Which is strange.
The location, again, is confusing. It's really pretty, in a sweet village, but be sure to ask for specific directions before you get there, or you will be lost in a maze of extremely narrow streets. Here comes the most annoying part - there is no parking. Parking is about 7 minutes walk from the hotel, in the same steep lane. They explained that this was because of the neighbors. Well, if you choose to open a hotel in a residential area, make sure your neighbors are ok with it before you invite your guests. This was annoying (we were told about it over the phone, but somehow it didn't register).
Furthermore, although it's a beautiful spot, it's not ideal if you're here to explore Jerusalem. It's about 20-30 minutes drive from the city, and of course your need a car. It makes more sense if you're here for a romantic getaway and plan to walk around in the area.
We stayed for a 2 nights weekend in August. We stayed in one of the larger suites.
All in all, it was a fun, romantic stay, because we insisted it should be one. I'm not sure it's worth the price, and I hope they become more consistent in their service and maintenance.

Room Tip: If you're already paying, make sure to get one of the bigger rooms, on the first floor, and not...

We stayed one night in this nice hotel but were put in a basement suite - just a large room- with a strong musty smell, which was considered an "upgrade".
Hotel breakfast was nice but service in general was so-so.
We were charged VAT even though we are foreign tourists- contrary to what were told over the phone. NOT OK.
It is only worth it if you can get into one of the nicer rooms. But, consider staying for the beautiful location...
We had a very expensive massage but it is NOT worth it.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for one of the larger suites- they look amazing. Skip the expensive dinner but the...
