First Impressions: Roladin is a large bakery chain in Israel with about 41 branches nationwide, stretching from Tel Aviv to Haifa, Sharon and Raman Gan, and a handful in Jerusalem. It is synonymously the "Dunkin' Donuts" of Israel, but that is where the comparison ends.
PROS: Located inside Mamilla Mall, its location is excellent. They also have an outdoor patio or terrace with a nice commanding view of King David Hotel. Apparently, Roladin is a locally well-known brand-name bakery in Israel, with the (baked) goods to back it up. I truly loved the Fur Gourmet Chocolate Moose Bomb -- a heavenly concoction of mousse cake made of Belgian chocolate (Belgians, imo, are the best chocolatiers in the world -- sorry, Swiss) and caramel. Oh, there's free WiFi, so bring your laptop along and find a patio chair.
CONS: Do I look like Sean Connery? Must be. Because, for a bakery, the place charged me Hollywood-celebrity level prices! However, it is reasonable considering the expensive area. Except for the desserts and pastries, nothing else stands out. Surely, my Mocha was watery (too dilute). And the young barrista did not understand what "extra sweet" Mocha means. To be clear, it is a straightforward, gourmet bakery that incidentally happens to serve coffee and light meals as well.
Verdict: In order of importance, Roladin is an excellent bakery, average espresso café and a stand-by restaurant. Great pastries with a price to match. Recommended. Overall, Grade B+.
