Crowne Plaza Hotel Jerusalem
Ranked #42 of 102 Hotels in Jerusalem
Reviewed 8 July 2012

As a travel agency owner and agent, our policy is to sample as many of the resorts we personally recommend, generally speaking to our high volume areas, to do so in a through manner, I brought along some of my toughest clients, including my five year old daughter. The Crowne Plaza is located in Givat Ram, a very central location in terms of overall area for Jerusalem. I will get to the free shuttle service later. You are less than 15 minutes walking time to both the central bus station, and light rail station. This is an invaluable asset for efficient and inexpensive travel around Jerusalem. In terms of sightseeing the Knesset, and the Israel Museum are both 15 minutes walk, downhill. The very convenient shuttle service that departs every two hours to both Mamilla adjacent to the Jaffa gate, and to the Ben Yehuda street outdoor area, is very handy to avoid expensive Taxi rides at tourist rates. The Crowne Plaza has a very modern, and expansive lobby. Meeting facilities are top notch as well as essential services for business travelers. The Club level I found was a quiet place to conduct the few meetings I had, with good coffee and fresh fruit easily on hand. Both the Indian restaurant located in the hotel and the dining facilities were also top notch. The expansive breakfast provided some very quality pastries and coffees and teas. The staff very much went out of their way to cater to a picky five year old. Shopping in the hotel is also fair for hotel prices. The House of Shalom jewelry shop is one of the finest in Israel. Our room was considered a standard, was very comfortable with a balcony and wonderful view of the Kneseet and Shrine of the book. The complimentary fruit plate on check in was certainly appreciated. I discovered by wandering around that the hotel has a kids camp, located just by the retractable roof pool. Expert and multilingual councilors were attentive and well in control of their operation. The Pool can be a little busy on Shabbat (Saturday). But this is typical for most of Israel. The staff was also multilingual and very professional. I observed them dealing with all types including very difficult tourists with ease and experience. I don't normally give top marks but this hotel really earned it. Highly recommended to both clients and friends.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Knesset/Shrine of the Book.

This hotel must specialize in group stays because the independent traveler gets no attention what-so-ever! Seriously, they never even answered the phone at the front desk, concierge, or customer service! We tried calling over a period of three times more than 15 times per day but no one ever answered our calls!

When we arrived in our room, we needed simple things like batteries for the tv remote, coffee, Internet password. Each time we called, we got no answer and everything I needed something, I had to leave our 14th floor room, go to e front desk, wait in line for 30 minutes (because it is an extremely busy hotel) to ask a simple question and get some service. It was extremely frustrating!

Also, iPod arriving, we had to wait for 30 minutes to check in. We are priority club members and were waiting in the club line for check in but no one came or acknowledged our presence. One person was behind the desk working with another customer (which we understood and had no problem with). We can be patient. But, another pushy tourist came up to the desk at the regular check in line and a clerk came from the office and went straight to him and helped him! We had been standing in the priority line for 30 minutes and this guy just walked up!! It wasn't the guys fault, the clerk should have observed his surroundings.

When we tried to get our batteries for the remote, they never came so we had to make 4 attempts to get them. After we got fresh batteries, we discovered it wasn't even the batteries, the remote didn't work.

When the maid came each day, they never replaced our coffee so we had to track down maids every day to get coffee. They also didn't put things back in place (like we are accustomed to with other IHG properties), for example, ironing board, glasses, cups, towels. The list goes on and on.

We wouldn't mind putting up with this kind of service if we were paying $40 per night but we used our points to book this trip that we saved over years and the rooms are equivalent to $200 per night! What a disappointment!!!

Avoid this hotel if you can.

Room Tip: Don't go to is hotel. There are much better options.

I am a tour leader/tour organizer and have made 70 trips to this glorious land. Most of the times I have stayed with my groups from 25 to 93 at this hotel whike in Jerusalem.

FOR VERY GOOD REASONS:

First and foremost are the staff members, who make you feel right at home from the moment they come to greet you with a welcome drink.

One of the managers, Akram Khweis and the Head of the Bell Staff plus, Benny, who has been there so much he knows everyone and what they need with out asking, are among the best of all my travels ! They are so accomodating.

This time it ended up I had a very sick man with us who they helped so greatly when I needed them. The restaurantsadn the food were excellant. The staff agian in the dining rooms were terrific!! Very helpful etc. The othre reviewer on this list of reviews must have come befroe thee major renovations.

The general manager, Haim, is also available if needed to assist you in any way. I cannot say enough good about this hotel and esp the peole who run it!!!

Room Tip: High floors have best views in any hotel. Also ask for renovated rooms in any hotel.

we were with a group of 45 people but plenty of room for everyone. The lobby bars were spacious and pleasant. LOTS of shops in the hotel. Spa and work out areas are great. This is a meeting place for the Jewish couples so tons of couples meeting all over the hotel to be in a public place. Entertaining to watch the dating process. Located near activity, the train etc. Views are fab from upper floors. Nice clean spacious, & lots of outlets for converters. The buffet was great with PLENTY of choices. A very good choice place to stay. Not top of the line but clean, pleasant and spacious.

Room Tip: On the sabboth there is only two working elevators or they stop on EVERY OTHER FLOOR. it took 10-15...
