Crowne Plaza Hotel Jerusalem
Ranked #41 of 100 Hotels in Jerusalem
Reviewed 18 September 2010

Location.
Behind the Binyanei Ha’Umah conference centre and about 0.8k from the Egged central bus station on Jaffa road. On top of a hill and IIRC is the highest point in Jerusalem so not easy to miss.
Just a little too far out to easily walk to the Old city (40 minutes mostly downhill).
Catch the number 1 bus from the bus station (all domestic busses are outside-inside are the long distance buses). Fare is now 6.50NIS. Taxi fare will be about 30NIS (didn’t do this ) Traffic can be horrendous and the bus trip took as long as the walk
Bus number 1 first stop near the Old City is just past Herod’s Gate and it circles the city (Clockwise) and terminates\restarts the journey just past Dung Gate.
Nearby is the Knesset, Dead sea scrolls museum (Both walkable) and Vad Yashem (15 minutes by bus 13 and others).
Hotel
Lobby is large and impressive with an ATM and small gift shop. I used points here and was upgraded (Platinum member) to a high floor (1412). Flat screen TV, small (but modern) bathroom, safe and automatic charge minibar.Small balcony accessible by French windows.
Crowne plaza Club room on the 21st floor, cost $60 extra. Club room is open from 06:30 until 23:00 (The room is actually open all the time, the times just refer to the food being available) Breakfast was croissants, bread, rolls cheeses, fruit juices and one cereal. Some soft cheeses and other items. There was always a hot item and this was usually scrambled “eggs” (possibly the dried kind) and another vegetarian type of hot food. Seemed to be served at about 07:00 and cleared by 11:00.
Throughout the day there were sweet nibbles and juices, water. The evening fare was again nibbles of smoked salmon, other fish, salads and the like. Again two choices of hot food though again usually nothing major. Alcoholic drinks were freely available throughout the whole period with a fridge stocking white wine, water and soft juices. There were opened and unopened bottles of Merlot always around. No spirits what so ever.
There were two Internet terminals which were free and adequate for surfing. A scanner\printer\photocopier was there, not sure if it worked though.
Depends how much you drink and what use you need of the Internet to say if it’s worth it if you’re the one paying the bill.
Internet is free and there are cheap eats in the cafes\shops in the Egged bus station. Though you have to get through security to get there.
Overall a reasonable stay, upgraded room was nice.
Location a slight inconvenience unless you are prepared to get on a bus or stump up 30NIS each way for a taxi.

to be honest, i've been in this hotel 3 years ago to celebrate a weekend for my wedding ceremony, and it wasnt so bad like this time.
we reserve 6 rooms(22people including kids) for the ROSH HASHANA holiday.
the rooms were quiet ok,we were in the 13th floor so it was quiet, the view was nice(you see the whole city) and no nice at all(the hotel surrunded construction areas!).
second of all, they charge extra payment for parking space!! why the hell i need to pay for parking if i am a hotel guest????????!!!
and the worst thing was the food. you expect from a place like crown plaza to luxurius food, instead of that you get cold food in the mornings and some of the evenings, there isnt a variety of things. the staff isnt taking care if a dish or a salad is over unless you tell them so! what im working for you or what???
its a shame! whole our family where shocked from this place.
one thing is sure, we will never return to this hotel or this network of hotels even if i get a free stay.

Second time I have stayed at this hotel and it is not getting any better.

They have not been able to manage my reservation properly on either trip. I asked a business associate to make the reservation and even though I provided my credit card and identification, (checking in and out) they billed him for the room the first time and failed to provide credit frequent guest program during second visit.

My room had serious electrical problems and after 2 days of not have lights or not being able to turn them off, I insisted on a new room and maintenance spent over an hour working on the fuse box to fix the problem.

Despite the bad reviews we read on TripAdvisor, we were told that the hotel was great and with high standard of at least 4stars... We reserved two rooms and they were both disappointing. Everything was old and not very clean. The meals at the hotel were unedible and we had to eat out at other hotels and restaurants. The service was slow (understatement of the year) and I can't find one good thing to say about the hotel, except that it has a nice pool which is partially covered so you're not in the sun unless you want to be, which is great, considering more and more people try to avoid excessive sun exposure. The location is awkward - looks near everything, but it's not really. I'd choose any hotel over this one. In the end, we stayed only one night, and left the hotel instead of staying two more nights.

The last time I stayed at this hotel, they were in the middle of renovations. Now that the renovations are completed it is clearly one of the nicest hotels. I stayed at two other hotels in Jerusalem in the past 12 months and this hotel is far superior both in facilities and service and everyone agrees that it has the best food. the guest room and bathroom we had was brand new. The room had a fridge and safe in room The hotel was immaculately clean.

I intend to return in the next August with some of our friends.

I rather enjoyed my stay at this hotel, we were upgraded to an Executive room, which looked renovated and was generally spotless. As mentioned by others, the views are great but the distance to the Old City makes for a pretty long walk...which is not a problem in itself as long as you know about it. Plus, the walks takes you past some nice market areas which are full of local color.

The pool area had a "sportier" vibe to it than most hotels and was covered but also had sun loungers nearby, thus offering the best of both worlds...it was excellent after a hot day in the Israeli sun.

Service was also quite decent, the staff were very informative when we asked them for directions, maps, etc.

Overall, I would definitely use it again on a future trip to Jerusalem, it offers good value in a city with very expensive hotels if you want something more than basic accommodation.

This is a 60s/70s Hotel that requires modernisation. The bedrooms are partially renovated, so be careful which type you get. The views are incredible from the upper floors, however, if you were on a lower floor, I dont believe that this would make up for the small bathrooms and the very old foyer, which has by-passed retro and just looks tired. Investment has been thrown at the cavernous lower ground floor buffet restaurant, and this has worked well, offering many varied food items, although staff are not that pleasant. Therefore the newly refurbed restauranat is at odds with the rest of the hotel. There are better & more expensive hotels in jerusalem & with a more central location.
