Very good impression overall: Mount Zion is an historic hotel (19th Century), but with renovated rooms and structures..
Its main strength is its proximity to Old City Jerusalem: in 5 min walk you can reach Jaffa Gate.
Apart from this, you can enjoy a good swimming pool (which closes at 6 pm, and this is bad), and most of all a real hammam.
Wifi is available, at cheap rates (5 $/day)

My wife and I and our two teenage children spent five nights in Jerusalem at the Mt Zion. We were able to secure one large room large enough to accommodate the four of us. The hotel is located in a good but not great location -- a 15-20 minute walk to the old city. This was not really a problem for us as better locations would have likely been pricier. The hotel is clean, but is old and needs to be updated. The views of the old city from the common area -- and some rooms -- are magnificent. The breakfasts are GREAT and the dining area is also quite nice. The hotel and restaurant managers were very nice and accommodating, but, through the staff, we arranged for two taxis that never arrived. This may not be the fault of the hotel, but.....Anyway, with an updating and refurbishing, I could rate this hotel potentially a 4 or a 5.

The hotel is beautifully renovated and has a breathe taking view as it faces the old city of Jerusalem. The rooms, ours were standard rooms, are beautiful with comfy beds and nice decoration. Breakfast was rich and delicious. Staff very helpful and nice. Excellent value for money. We were there before and will certainly be back.

Nice reception, but room decor needed refreshing, as it was a bit old. Had a nightime visitor in the bed our first night (=cockroach!). The pool people didn't bother to pick up stuff left by the day's guests (but did find the time to horse around amongst themselves!). Hammam was dated too. Excellent breakfast! A good 12-minute hike to the Old Town. All in all, not great value for money.

Stayed here in August with our son - very nice hotel. Well situated for the Old City (if you don't mind the walk up the hill). Loved the quirkiness of the hotel - lots of pots, flowers and small terraces dotted around the place.
Room was large but I would have preferred a slightly smaller bedroom and a larger bathroom. Rooms definately do need updating and the management should look at this.
Hotel staff were lovely and very helpful. Breakfasts were fantastic - really set you up for the day. Lovely manager in the breakfast room who remembered us each morning.
Only complaint - went to the pool in the late afternoon. There was a pool attendant, a life guard and someone serving behind the bar. Neither did their job effectively. As it was towards the end of the day, there was rubbish and old towels everywhere - I don't understand why one of the three people could not have cleared up. Rubbish bins were overloaded and cats were tipping them over to get out the rubbish. Did not want to stay in the area - it really was horrible.
Apart from that - nice hotel!

This comfortable boutique hotel offers astounding views of the Old City and the Hinnom Valley and a fascinating history. We enjoyed a citadel room with ample space and comfort for five nights. Hotel staff offered helpful advice for dining and exploring. The breakfast buffet was exceptional. The lobby and hidden public sitting areas encouraged socialization. The pool was inviting. We highly recommend this hotel.

Between 1882 and 1948, this hotel was an eye hospital serving Moslems, Jews, and Christians. During the War for Independence, a unique cable car linked this building with an Israeli position on Mount Zion. A small museum in the hotel features the cable car and hotel history.

The hotel is only a 15 minute walk from the trendy German Colony area featuring a variety of superb restaurants. We recommend Roza Restaurant & Bar and Caffit in German Town, as well as the non-kosher Lavan Cafe Restaurant in the Cinematheque.

A real jewel hidden in a valley overlooking the Old City, this exotic hotel has some of the most breathtaking views of Jerusalem. Located in an historic building, the Mount Zion has a special charm. Unlike chain hotels, the whole place is adorned with beautiful furniture and decorations with an unmistakable Middle Eastern flair. I've stayed there many times, and enjoy the special family atmosphere which makes it a home from home. I am sure there is no more picturesque or unusual hotel in the whole of Jerusalem. Enjoy, but let's keep this as our secret!
