We had concerns about the accessability to parts of town from the hotel. It was in walking distance from the German Colony where they are many good restaurants. Next door the hotel the Cinematique also good food. We walked on the footpath above the road to the old city. We walked through the park to the King David and YMCA. Took buses from the old city to Yad Vashem. And taxis where necessary. LOvely pool, especially with some urging they cleaned up the changing rooms. Delightful gardens. A more active housekeeper checking on the running and cleaning would have made this a very top rate hotel. It has character and charm

I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Mount Zion & loved every minute of it. The hotel absolutely ooozes old world atmosphere with its stunning views of Jerusalem, eastern decor, & tranquil garden. Even though I had a standard room there was a pretty good view of Jerusalem & I can only imagine how great the views are from their Citidel rooms. My room was a very good size for a large city hotel room and it was kept spotless. The bed was firm but comfortable & the bed and bath linens were very nice. The buffet breakfast had a wonderful selection of various salads, cheeses, breads, yogurt, fruit, & cereal. The lobby bar/dairy restaurant had a nice selection of salads, pastas, sandwiches, a delightful cheese board & yummy pasteries. Room service serves basically the same menu as the lobby bar & there is no additional cost for room service which is served promptly. Staff services in all areas were absolutely outstanding & I agree with a previous reviewer when she said she "felt like royalty". There is also a spa located in the garden area, but I never seemed to have the time to take advantage of it. The hotel is located only 1k from the Jaffa Gate. Even though the area is hilly, it would be an easy walk to the Old City for someone physically fit. Since I am an older person I took a taxi for around 17 Shekels. I absolutely recommend this hotel & should I ever return to Jerusalem I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else!

For this price category, this is good value had a big suite with a view. Nice breakfast room. Interesting building and pool area. Only problem is restaurant closed for Sabbath so this is not full service. Nowhere to within walking distance. If only the opened the restaurant all week long it would be perfect.

Gorgeous hotel! It really feels like you are back in time hundreds of years ago. In the morning you wake to the church bells.

This is a beautiful hotel located in a renovated eye hospital. The building is over 100 years old, and has a lot of character, as well as history. The furnishings in the halls and other public rooms are beautiful and interesting. The lobby and bar area have good views of Jerusalem. We stayed in a citadel room which was nicely furnished with a view toward the city. The breakfast was wonderful--very delicious with quite an array of offerings. The hotel is near the Old City, but maps sometimes can be deceiving since Jerusalem is hilly. We often took a taxi or the tour van, but it is walkable. This is a very atmospheric, charming place to stay while in Jerusalem.

Although we were in Jerusalem in the "very off" season and seemed to be the ONLY ones in the hotel, the staff went out of the way to give us an enjoyable week in their city. There were 20 of us total in our group, but every morning they presented a breakfast buffet that could have fed 100 - with every option possible. Our rooms were always clean and comfortable, and they were helpful when we needed them. It's proximity to the Old City is great, especially as it has a more unique charm than the modern hotels. We just loved our visit!

The Mount Zion came highly recommended by friends and our travel agent. I'm not sure if standards have gone down there, or if we happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but we did not have a great experience. We are not picky travelers, however cleanliness at hotels is on the top of my list for enjoyment. I can handle old, I can handle slightly worn, I can appreciate the view (which is wonderful) and I can appreciate character over modern and convenient. Unfortunately it is difficult to enjoy these things when one is confronted with extreme uncleanliness and poor service.

Upon our arrival at the hotel, I went to use one of the complimentary bathrobes, only to find that the bathrobe was soiled with fresh feces. It was very obviously never replaced or attempted to be cleaned, but simply left there from the previous occupant. We called the front desk and asked them to remove the soiled robes from our room. A day and a half later they were still there and we had to call again. We also had a second room for our kids. Upon arrival, a room service tray with food remnants and soiled dishes greeted us outside their room. It remained there all that day, and the next day. The scene was much the same throughout the hotel, especially at the pool where regular cleaning and tidying is clearly not part of the hotel's regimen. We had also, upon arrival, called the front desk asking for an iron (none are supplied in the room) because we had our son's Bar Mitzvah the following morning and needed to press our clothes. Needless to say, the iron never arrived in time and we all went with wrinkled clothing. This was mid-week, not Shabbat. I've stayed at 2 star hotels that put a greater emphasis on cleanliness and service.

It is very unfortunate that these incredibly negative experiences left us unable to appreciate the hotel's charms. It has tremendous potential, and may at times benefit from greater service, but we were definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time. Management here needs to wake up.
