“To be a Pilgrim!”
Reviewed 29 December 2013 via mobile

We stayed at The Golden Walls as a party of 25. We were well catered for and the staff very kindly spoke English with us. They were all smart, friendly and professional. The food was excellent, varied, colourful, tasty and fresh. Our room was 'just right', spacious, comfortable and clean. An unpredictable problem of a flickering lightbulb in our bathroom was dealt with promptly. The porters were extremely efficient and a domestic worker was seen whistling as he worked - it must be a good place to work! If I were to say what could be improved, and I'll bet it is on the manager's wish list, it is the tiny lift which can cause delays, even though there is a separate one for the staff so they can 'get on and do'. Nice roof garden, too. A memorable stay in an ideal location near to the city wall!

Stayed 1 night as a part of a group. That was more than enough. The rooms are small and the beds are very small. You can't push them together as a table is fixed between them. Bathroom is equally cramped. The dining room is too small for the number of guests. The net effect is a cramped, noisy, claustrophobic experience. Food itself was OK, but not a place to linger. Wi Fi was unreliable, constantly cutting in and out, rendering it useless if you needed to surf the internet.

Service was indifferent. The hotel trades on its position close to the old city. It has no other plus points.

We stayed here for 6 nights from 23rd October as part of a McCabe Pilgrimage. The hotel was nice enough as we were out most of the days anyway, but on arriving we had no towels in our room. We went to reception 3 times to ask for towels but none materialised. It is pretty poor when you can't shower or bath on your night of arrival after a long journey. The room service was hit and miss, some days it didn't seem that the room had been done at all, other days, wet towels were folded up and put on top of dry towels thereby making them wet. They need decent chambermaids! The food was good and you could not fault that. Would I stay again? Yes as such a handy location.

We stayed at the Golden Walls Hotel for six nights as part of a McCabe pilgrimage. There were definite pros and cons.
On the plus side has to be the location as it is directly opposite the old walls with easy access to the city. The food was good and plentiful and the staff were generally friendly and accommodating.
Where the hotel lets itself down is in the quality of the rooms. Apparently there is arefurbishment programme but our room was musty and smelled damp. The room really needed a complete re-decoration and re-fitting as it was not up to basic standards that are expected in the 21st century. Just because we were on a pilgrimage is no excuse to palm us off with sub-standard accommodation. And the simple fact that there are no drink making facilities is really not on. If we had not been part of a tour group we would have checked out after the first night.
Other pilgrim hotels are available in Jerusalem within the same vicinity, and these appeared to be more modern and certainly better maintained.

The hotel is tired and needs investment to upgrade the older rooms to a standard usually found in Tulip Group hotels. Rooms might look out on the street sellers below along with their rubbish and noise from early morning to late evening. Room servicing is somewhat casual at times and essential things like bath plugs missing. There is somewhat noisy air conditioning but it wasn't working in our room - open the window and the loudspeakers of the adjacent mosque bellow out a frequent intervals. Single beds can be narrow. Shower needs better temp control. Good roof garden overlooking the city walls across the dual carriageway, but litter not often cleared away. Good points - the restaurant was fine with a good choice at every meal, but can by busy with 170 guests. Staff are helpful and pleasant. The lift only starts at the first floor so need to negotiate three flights of stairs to reception.

Room Tip: Try and get one of the newer rooms at the SE corner

I recently took a party of 47 to Israel and stayed in the Tulip Inn in Jerusalem. It is an ideal setting for exploring the old city which is just across the road and also the wider pilgrimage sites in Israel. The staff are wonderful - nothing is too much trouble. One of our party had the handle on his case broken and they repaired it free of charge. Food is good and varied and the rooms are always clean and adequate. This is my first choice of hotel in Jerusalem

Room Tip: You need to get a room that is not on the same side as the bus station or at the back where the Musl...

Located in the center of the old city .. And close to everything.
the price is totally fair....
it is close to Bab Almud gate, a couple of minutes around 2-3 minutes you can reach the gate..
it is good for families..the rooms is too wide and comfortable.
FYI:
the breakfast also nice and rich as it should be
