“Modern hotel convenient to the Old City Damascus Gate”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

We stayed one night at the hotel before departing for Amman, Jordan. It is a convenient transit stop because the van bus service to the Allenby Bridge Crossing (the closest crossing point) leaves from right behind the hotel. Golden Walls Hotel is located across the street from the walls of the Old City and a short walk to the Damascus Gate. This is a modern hotel with clean well appointed rooms, a spacious lobby overlooking the Old City and a rooftop terrace that provides a nice view of Jerusalem The manager and staff were polite and helpful in responding to our inquiries. The hotel is also convenient in being a short walk to a streetcar stop. The streetcar line goes up the main West Jerusalem street Jaffa and past the central inter-city bus station, where you can catch a bus to Tel Aviv. At $150 a night we found it good value.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has a view of the historic walls of the old city

Rooms air conditioned, decent quality, extensive selection of buffet food, all good quality and attentive staff. The lack of a lift in the lobby could be bothersome although there is a lift at the rear.
Large Lounge/Bar Area.

Jerusalem WARNING Do not use the ATMs in the Bureau de Changes as I finished up paying a hefty 18.7% charges for my Shekels. It was converted first by them into US Dollars and then by my bank into sterling. The ATM at Tel Aviv airport was fine.

We stayed at this hotel during a Holy Land Pilgrimage along with 60 others. It is located in a very busy part of the city just outside the Damascus Gate. As such visitors to Jerusalem could not be better placed and the glories of the city can be appreciated with a short hop, skip and a jump from the hotel entrance. The entrance to the hotel is in the middle of a narrow footway inhabited by all sorts selling their goods with many passers by and much noise and excitement. This is all part of the experience and should be enjoyed. However, extra vigilance is necessary as pickpockets thrive in this environment through no fault of the hotel. In fact, the hotel assembles a team of staff at the entrance whenever large crowds are disembarking to transfer luggage and guests into the safety of the hotel as quickly as possible.

Once inside the hotel is surprisingly quiet but some room do suffer from early morning noise (but not excessive). The sitting area was very inviting and whilst the hotel has got a roof terrace it did not seem very keen to capitalise on it by stocking the bar.

Our bedroom was a good size but the bathroom was a little small. A narrow bath had a slippery inside surface and care was needed to avoid an accident. Rubber mats should have been provided with a clear recommendation to use them.

Food was buffet service and was plentiful at breakfast and supper. The staff put on a special festive show one evening with special music and lighting. They also provided a local dancer who encouraged the 60 of us onto our feet to dance around the long tables to the slight surprise of the Israeli staff!

Room Tip: The location of the hotel is that most rooms have an indifferent view although some will have a vie...

Stayed at the Golden Walls For vacation. The staff and service was excellent. I stayed on the renovated side of the hotel and my room was very nice and clean. The hotel is very close to Damascus gate so I was able to walk to the souks and also very close to Holy Sepulchre, Wailing Wall, and other places you may want to visit during your stay. Free wifi with adequate connection to use Skype and other Internet services to contact family while abroad. Would recommend to others.

We are due to leave The Golden Walls tomorrow morning. I am in my room having enjoyed a Sultan's Banquet. The food once again was excellent with plenty of choice from a range of different food varieties. There was plenty of it and it is well prepared.
The hotel is well placed within Jerusalem being close to Damascus Gate and also within walking distance of the newer area of the city centre (I walked there earlier this evening). The hotel is clean and neat. Though not a five star hotel it has everything I want. I didn't have my bed turned back but then I can manage that myself. I didn't have rose petals scattered on my sheets but I wouldn't want that either. I thoroughly enjoyed my five days here. Now, I am looking forward to my last breakfast!

Room Tip: If you need someone else to do everything for you, go somewhere else. Try not to get a room overlook...

We stayed at the hotel as part of a Mc Cabe pilgrimage for 4 nights. There were many other groups there at the same time.
The hotel was actually much better than I expected it to be. Our room had been recently renovated, was very clean and had a large bathroom.
The view from our room initially looked rather dull - right next to a bus station; however on the last day we discovered that the rocky cliff was actually Skull Hill which can be seen properly from The Garden Tomb - just around the corner.
After reading previous reviews I thought we might be woken early by the call to prayer from the mosque which was right outside our window but the hotel was very quiet at night and we slept well.
You can walk from the hotel through the Damascus Gate and right into the old city which was an amazing experience. The wonderful different sights, sounds and smells from the city and the souks will stay with me forever.
There is plenty of food to choose from at the hotel - all meals buffet style and something to suit everyone.
We had an amazing time on our pilgrimage and we certainly hope to return.
