“In Need of Refurbishment”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

We have stayed in this iconic hotel many times over the years. It is, without doubt, the grand dame of early 20th century hotels, still operating today. However, such institutions require not only regular maintenance but also periodic rejuvenation, which has not been carried out in this hotel for many years. Levels 5 and 6 have been renovated but the rooms are smaller than those on lower floors and are not particularly attractive. The service is mediocre and attention to detail is scant. The rooms, whilst very spacious, some with magnificent old city views, have ancient bathrooms and depressing decor. Whilst the breakfast buffet is generous and plentiful, tea pots come with plastic covers and chipped cups and saucers. The laundry service is quite poor with garments not having been properly pressed. Sadly, this hotel leaves much to be desired.

Room Tip: The best rooms are those which face east, which have views of the old city, garden and pool.

My wife and I look forward a whole year to our annual vacation at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. We travel widely but no hotel anywhere has as much to offer and no city is more inspiring. When we arrive, we are always greeted warmly with the words" welcome home" and that is how we feel.
Special thanks to Maya Morav, Guest Relations Manager, for upgrading us to a deluxe room with a large porch and garden and for making us feel special.
The view of the Old City is beyond compare. It goes straight to your heart.and puts everything in perspective. It is the source of belief and wisdom for more people than any city in the world.
Maya joined us frequently for breakfast, like no other, and shared her insights, warmth and wisdom. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Maya for her many special treats and wish her all the best. We miss her already.
The historical charm of this hotel, the genuine warmth and gracious hospitality, cannot be duplicated. In Jerusalem, the King David is unique and there is no equal, not even close.
The huge delicious Israeli breakfast is made even more appetizing by the amazing staff including Taleeb, Rasheed and Youseef.
Veiga, Shai and Mustaffa at the front desk and Concierge Eyal take great pride in their profession and are all superb. Their warmth and graciousness are priceless.
We are proud that all these people consider us good friends.
Thanks for everything, gratefully appreciated
Dr. Chaim and Anne Bernstein

Room Tip: Deluxe Old City view-priceless.

Let me start by saying that this hotel was highly recommended to us by our friends who stayed there a few years ago. This hotel is a member of Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) group and I booked directly through their website. This is a hotel with unbelievable history and you can feel it as soon as you walk into the lobby. As soon as we arrived we were given an upgrade from one family room to two separate rooms (connected by the door inside), which was lovely since my husband and I could have our own bathroom and shower and closet and our 14 year old daughter had her own. There was a little gift from hotel prepared for me (cute wooden jewelry box) in our room, and also snacks and contents of mini-bar were on the house.
We had lunch in the garden restaurant overlooking pool and old city, the service was superb and atmosphere very serene.
Buffet breakfasts in the morning were plentiful, sometimes too many things to choose from and if that wasn't enough you could have eggs, omelets and french toast made to order.
We attended a shabbat dinner on friday night and had a wonderful experience and once again superb service.
One of the days during breakfast Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones and their children casually walked through restaurant. They were in town to celebrate their son's bar mitzvah.
Unfortunately we had so many things planned for our 4 day stay in Jerusalem that we didn't have time to enjoy spa or fitness center but I am sure that they are just like the rest of the hotel services first class all the way.
I am sure if we end up in Jerusalem again, this is the hotel we will stay in.

Room Tip: Get the room facing old city, it offers unbelievable views

Dear Valued Guests,

Thank you for contributing a review of your recent stay at The King David Hotel in Jerusalem. Your direct feedback is helpful to us in developing and monitoring the services we provide to our guests. We are pleased to read that you find our gardens and guestrooms spectacular. We take much pride in our exclusive Old City views and outdoor areas which are truly magical. We regret, however, that you were less satisfied with the food during your stay. It would be helpful to us to receive further details, so that we could investigate the matter with our chef as negative feedback concerning food and beverage are quite rare in occurrence. Nevertheless, we realize that there is always room for improvement.Your encouraging remarks about our dedicated team members have been forwarded to them, and we thank you for recognizing their strong commitment to our guests. I read about this hotel in the book "1000 places to see before you die". This Hotel definitely fit the description. Everything about it was first class, from the welcome we received, to the upgrade to a lovely balcony rm. overlooking the "old city", to the terrific rooms and wonderful food. We had dinner there and loved the true Israeli breakfast the following morning. We were very sorry to leave the place and would definitely go back to that hotel if we ever travel to Jerusalem again. Unbelievable elegance.

Room Tip: balcony rooms are worth it for the views alone.

The hotel has remodeled over the years. I have been coming here for ten years and love the hotel. Honestly it is like home to me. We have rode the elevators with celebrities and once a king. You can tell the visitors by the flags. The valets are terrific! They will bring your items such as a cell phone. An airline lost our luggage and the hotel called for us. Breakfast is my favorite meal. The waffles are amazing!!!!! The only thing to avoid are the cab drivers outside the hotel. If they are not affiliated with the hotel avoid them. You will get.a rip off rate. There is the best romantic place called eucalyptus by the hotel. It has the best food in Israel! You will love that place!! Enjoy

The feeling of getting recongized as an important person even if you are not a celebrity - which there are many of at King David. The empolyers have a very high standard at the same time show their personality. Always the best service - the best breakfast in the world-
